Vocally the babes are far stronger. All four line ups.

Girls Aloud have just been lucky. Its producers and good management that do it for them. Cheryl is the only long term star of the group who will be remembered in 10 years. The rest will all disapear while Sarah may just land a role on EastEnders to keep her busy.

I was referring to this live performance
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oxj27WlPlSM

Not something they recorded for CD.
Right... and Nadine is amazingly double tracked in the chorus, yet she's the only one with a microphone to her mouth at the time...
They're playing to a standard backing track, which they have the timing and sequences to. You realise that autotune can be done live too... Especially in those circumstances. Its easily controlled via a MIDI sequencer.

I was at a nightclub on Saturday, the DJ/singer was auto-tuning himself whilst singing, so yes, I'm pretty damn certain Girls Aloud were auto-tuned in that performance.

Sugababes, on the other hand, clearly weren't. That's why it's so rough around the edges, but it works.

Honestly, none of them are that attractive, in looks or personality, and there's thousands of girls who look like them tumbling out of every club pissed on a Saturday night. ...Xenomania write good songs though. It wouldn't matter who sang them, as long as they had half decent voices. It's clear that Cheryl doesn't even have that, but they make it passable with computer technology.
I completely agree with you with regard to not 'wanting' them and their sex appeal (or lack of as the case may be.) For the first few years after Popstars:The Rivals, I had the odd friend that would say they found so and so from Girls Aloud attractive - more often than not it would be Sarah Harding. In typical lads' talk style, the mate that found one of the Girls Aloud members attractive seldom knew the name!

However, there are a heck of a lot of girls that would easily not look out of place in a Girls Aloud photo shoot that as you say you would see falling out of every nightclub. They are fairly ordinary women. Cheryl Cole only really started getting attention when she got involved with 'Cashley' Cole although admittedly that vulgar incident with the toilet attendant obviously gave her some repute. She isn't really that spectacular and if anything, I think Sarah Harding stood out more in terms of her looks initially.

To continue with the last point, maybe the fact that they started out as fairly ordinary women has something to do with their appeal?

Mind you, the way that the media and certain people rave about them would suggest that they are this extremely original and talented unit full of the most stunning beauties to walk the face of the Earth.

I've been convinced for the last few years that a significant number of people are happy with mediocrity and I just leave them to it. However, what does annoy me is when I get people coming out with the whole, "how can you NOT find Cheryl gorgeous" or "how can you NOT think that 'Can't speak French' is an excellent pop song?" line of questioning/reasoning.
