The decades are different. They're not 'since' anything. They are names based on the first number of the decade. The 80s was 1980, 81, 82, ... to 89, for example. So the 'noughties' is 2000, 01, 02... to 2009. The year 2000 was the last year of the second millenium but the first year of the 'noughties' decade. |
