Stars eager to see former Beatles legend Sir Paul McCartney at his O2 Arena gig
By Sophie Eager Dec 22, 2009, 9:30 GMT

Former Beatles legend Sir Paul McCartney has been inundated with guestlist requests for his gig at the O2 Arena.
The 66-year-old is playing at the venue in London tonight (Dec 22) and famous stars that will be out to see him perform include Ringo Starr, Madonna and the Beckhams as well as their guests.
The singer revealed that he usually has 100 tickets to give to friends and family but his allocation for this gig has reached 600.
A source told UK newspaper The Sun: 'Macca's gig is the only place to be in town tonight. The O2 will be rammed to the rafters.'

Should have been on lower tier, but quite near the back. Better than level 4 though!

December 1963, I honestly don't remember what songs they did, everyone was screaming and you couldn't hear much with the equipment they had in those days. Personally I just stood and stared at them in awe, just a few yards away from me, I was 17 and it was like seeing the pictures on my wall come to life! We queued for three days in shifts, day and night to get those tickets. They weren't as tall as I imagined. One of the best times of my life.

I was there last night. Thought he was BRILLIANT - as, of course, were his band. Good set list too - a few I hadn't heard him do before.

2hrs 45mins on stage - not bad for someone who's nearly 67.

Okay..... HE - WAS - INCREDIBLE.

I don't feel I should say much because I can NEVER do him justice, but.... WOW.

He really BLEW THE ROOF off the 02 Arena and I've never heard anybody sing so welll!!!! Me and my friend are 17, we were screaming and crying for a very long time. And as well as perfoming the greatest songs in music history to perfection, he was SO sweet and funny in between songs.
I just don't really know how to word it, because I've never seen anything like it, and of course there is nobody to compare Paul McCartney to. But if you've never seen him, YOU MUST!

On the radio they called it a "life-changing experience". I agree. You can't stand with that many people singing "Hey Jude" and "Give Peace and Chance" and not gain a new perception.

He's truely amazing. And SO MUCH ENERGY! I was aching all over by the end, couldn't hold my arms up any more and screwed up my voice box!! But he looked as if he could keep going all night!! PLEASE go and see Paul, you HAVE to. You'll never forget it.

I was there last night too, it was absolutely awesome!

The applause for John brought tears to my eyes, it was so moving. I loved the tribute to George as well with the ukulele version of 'Something' which then merged into the other version.
I really liked the new song, thought it sounded really good live, actually better than on recored (I thought)
Some brilliant Beatles classics too, Elenor Rigby, Let it be, Drive my car and so on. thought adding Mull in Kintrye was a nice touch too for the time of year.

Yeah, bloody good gig

At a guess I would say

From Me To You
She Loves You
I Want To Hold Your Hand
Please Please Me
All My Loving
Roll Over Beethoven (George)
I Wanna Be Your Man (Ringo)
I Saw Her Standing There
Twist & Shout

My folks also saw them around that time in Croydon - they had good seats - but couldn't hear a thing for all the screaming

This was probably part of the same tour and this is what is was like. Look at their amplifiers compared to what bands use today!

I was on the front row for this gig. I love Paul McCartney, have followed him for years. I was also lucky enough to attend the sound check in Paris and was also front of stage directly in front of Paul's mic for that gig too.
He blew the roof off the 02 and the Bercy. Macca totally rocks!!

Mr G and I were there on Tuesday. Absolutely marvellous - he really is fantastic. And what a treat to include unusual songs, such as Mull of Kintyre and Wonderful Christmastime!

Macca brought the house down! My first McCartney concert (and hopefully not last) and he was amazing! for 67 to perform for almost 3 hours without a break is phenominal and puts artists up to 40 years younger than him to shame! The John and George tributes were especially emotional. Mull of Kintyre and Wonderful Christmastime on the same setlist! He hasnt done that since 1979 apparantly!

P.S Mike McCartney stood behind me in the place where i had dinner at the O2!

Absolutely fantastic!! Sadly still coming down to earth...

Great to hear Wonderful Christmastime. Sounds brilliant live. Loving the new song, (I want to) Come Home, very poignant.

Favourites were Sing the Changes, Only Mama Knows, Jet, Eleanor Rigby and Something.

Thanks Paul and band for an amazing night. Perhaps I can get a little closer next year...

"Something" was beautiful. I'm glad Dhani and Olivia Harrison were there, I'm sure they were very touched by it. And Paul looked pretty emotional at the end when he looked at the screen with George on.
