I don't get Susan Boyle. Her voice is nothing special. In fact it is often out of tune especially when she sang Memory. She was even out of tune in the audition which half the world think is "incredible".

Her performances are boring as hell as she just stands there and sings. You could say that is because her performances are all about her voice, but as her voice is average (and sometimes very screechy) there doesn't seem to be a lot to her as a performer.

So I have a couple of questions to Susan Boyle fans.

1. Do you think she would have got through to the semi final of BGT if she was young and presentable looking?

2. Do you think she is a world class talent?

I am interested to know.

No i dont think susan boyle would have got through if she was younger and prettier..
She has a good enough voice i suppose but nothing special. like yourself i dont see the appeal..
I think her "story" plays a large part in her success, but fair plays to her all the same..its nice to see someone make their dream later in life..but ya i dont see the huge hype at all.I wouldnt go see her or buy her records

Glad I'm not the only one who thinks this. I don't get the appeal and never have done. Just Cowell hype as usual.

No I don't think Susan Boyle has a great singing voice. It's cringing. Once again it is down to these sob stories that they give, and the rest of the country then feels sorry for her, so go buy an album of worthless terrible covers

Hope she buggers off next year!

how the HELL has she managed to sell Millions of albums worldwide? good voice, i'll give her that, but shes only done well because she's...ugly, lonely and strange (not my words)...Lets face it, if she looked like Katherine Jenkins, we'd have forgotten her name by now.

I don't get it either. She is a good singer, undoubtedly, but all the thigh flashing and Piersy baby on the BGT final made me ill.

I like Susan Boyle, and I am happy for her and her success, but the simple fact is, the only reason why she's so popular is because she's unattractive.

If you put her voice inside a prettier woman, nobody would have paid any attention. Shes a good singer, but isnt anything special.

Dont think i'm a hater - I genuinely am happy to see someone's dreams come true.

Also, I really dont get how a million people bought her album.. I really just cant place her market. I dont think many mums would particularly want SuBo for Christmas, and she's hardly going to be on the musthave list for youngsters.. I wonder who actually is buying her CD in such high quantities.. I cant work out what her market is!

I'm suprised so many people agree! I do feel happy for her success because she hasn't had the easiest of lives but I think there is plenty more interesting talent out there.

Simon Cowell. He bought ALL copies. And now he doesn't know what to do with them, so I expect all his slaves will recieve her CD for christmas

You are not the only one! Suffice to say that buying SuBo's album for my Mum (aged 47) didn't even enter my mind as a possible gift idea this Christmas. At the same time, I wouldn't even have thought about buying the album for my grandmother (aged 65), particularly as she has been complaining about hearing the "dreadful" cover version of "Wild Horses" by "that Boyle creature" on Radio 2 recently.

I expect that the sales can be accounted for by relatives and friends having a major issue buying presents for relatives of a certain age. I also predict that a great number of grandparents are going to receive the SuBo album for Christmas and to keep the peace won't say anything. Poor souls!

In my experience, the 'real youngsters' as I like to call them (the ones under the age of 20) are constantly poking fun and making jokes about SuBo and thus are very unlikely to be blaring her tones out of their mobile phone speakers when on the bus.

Perhaps very young and impressionable children will have asked Santa for the Boyle album? Hmmm... I doubt it.

Not so. If you look back at the last BGT auditions show (recorded before any of the shows had been broadcast) none of the judges mentioned Boyle as a potential winner.

It was only after the show was broadcast and the youtube thing took off that Cowell realised what he had. This one was NOT Cowell led.

I don't get her at all and was unfortunate enough to hear 'Wild Horses' on the radio and IMHO it was dreadful

I cant believe people watch BGT and get sucked in.

Agree 100% with the OP, as soon as the yanks got wind of her on YouTube all hell broke loose!

I've been reading all your posts and I'm suprised no Susan Boyle fans have appeared yet! The hype in the press about her made me think she had a huge fanbase but now I'm wondering if it's only the press who are really interested in her and that a large percentage of the public aren't that bothered.

It's easy to say that Susan has an average voice but to get a number 1 debut albumn in The UK and the US and the fastest selling debut albumn of the year must mean something.

Susan Boyle is not to everyones' tastes but she has a fantastic voice.

If she has done well due to being unattractive, doesn't that show the world is no longer judgemental.

nah! just shows the world will occasionally tolerate a "token" unattractive person with a story from a reality show.

She is a novelty act nothing more. The world has not changed.

I know of some fiecrely talented singers with amazing voices who don't look like models and so are relegated to session music and doing the demos for songwriters who want to sell the song to an "attractive" star (who will need to eb auto-tuned anyway).

Her voice is not outstanding - in fact, I heard her album playing in HMV the other week and it really was quite shrill to listen to. I wouldn't ever buy it personally.

The hype has long since surpassed her limitations as a performer.

Everybody was all ready to laugh in her face because of her looks, and then stood in patronising open-mouthed shock that an 'unattractive' person could dare to harbour a modicum of talent.

Now she has become a novelty act because of her 'unique' looks. The US, in particular, is probably fascinated by the whole scenario because their society is so obsessed with aesthetics.

Cowell is a clever man, he realised that there was discontent as to the amount of pretty women pop stars his programmes were producing so to counteract that he provided the antithesis in the form of Ms Boyle.

IMHO her version of Cry Me A River is very good, she does have more range than some give her credit for.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GtExIXB3l6M

Quite a sultry version of the song.

Consider two of the biggest selling female singers of the last two decades - Madonna and Kylie Minogue - have they better voices than Susan Boyle? I'd say no but people love them. I don't think you need an incredible voice to be a successful singer.

I think Susan Boyle has a very emotive voice, she sells the emotion of the songs and that could be her best asset. People always go back to the way she looks but her voice is pretty good and that's the most important thing.
