I don't get the Susan Boyle hype either.

Fair play to her, I'm glad that someone has been able to make money in the middle of a recession and is doing something that makes them happy, but the media hype surrounding her is something I'll never understand.

It's the Cinderella story that got her noticed, especially when it comes to her American fans who go absolutely potty over that kind of rags to riches fairy tale aspect. If she'd been attractive and living an average life, I doubt most people would care.

I wouldn't personally say Susan Boyle has a fantastic voice. This is what I call a fantastic voice.

I don't get her either.
I think its just a shock that someone who looks like her can sing.
Dunno why though, loads of middle aged women can sing.

Yep, it means she has a fantastic publicity team.

I didn't even know who Boyle was until a couple of months ago, I saw her, thought "that's who the hype was about?" and turned over.

I am sure by her second album, no one will care anymore.

Hmmm some terrible narrow minded views on here. I guess the OP and others are only in their 20's or even teenagers

With Subo it's not just about the voice - though this is the main reason so many love her obviously - but her quirkyness her history how she became so famous literally overnight.. many many other things which add to the mix - She does have that certain something which is why she has sold near 5 million albums in just a few weeks !!

She's no oil painting granted but to say she is ugly is not really factual, us Brits / the UK press can't wait to tear someone down as quickly as possible, it's a trait which I don't think exists even in the US or nowhere near as much as here where the yanks seem to see the good side far more and so they should

It definitely is just about her story. There is nothing else to her. She is an alright singer but people are buying the hype.

She's an average-looking person who has an above average singing voice. The fact that this is considered amazing by some people really depresses me.

Is it the press that have bought her album in huge numbers?

I can see the points here.

But she is who she is and she gives her performance from that place - it's part of her persona and performance, as much as Lady GaGa is from hers.

No star is just a voice, they are a voice that belongs to that person. Just good voices are ten a penny.

I rate Susan Boyle, she has emotion in her voice, which is, itself, very tender and beautiful.

I wish her well.

I wish this women well and think what she has done is amazing. But I do fear for her and hope she is not going to get chewed up and spat out

Her performances are boring as hell as she just stands there and sings. You could say that is because her performances are all about her voice, but as her voice is average (and sometimes very screechy) there doesn't seem to be a lot to her as a performer.

So I have a couple of questions to Susan Boyle fans.

1. Do you think she would have got through to the semi final of BGT if she was young and presentable looking?

2. Do you think she is a world class talent?

I am interested to know. ”

I think Susan has a lovely voice and my favourite track on her album is Cry me a River. (I don't mean the Justin Timberlake song.) Oh how she sings that superbly well.
I don't think if Susan had been a smart 40 odd year old that she would have made the same impact on the judges on BGT or would have been watched on the net worldwide to be honest.
I like her because she's ordinary. She doesn't pretend to be something she's not and I think that is what appeals to people the world over.
You know at the audtion she came one and when asked who she would like to be like she said Elaine Page and when you looked at her you thought "aye right."
But when she opened her mouth to sing it just wasn't what what you expected to hear. It was a bit of a shock.
People can identify with Susan. She's living her dream. She gives hope to people that they can make it and live their dreamat any age. She still lives in her council house in Blackburn Scotland. She's thrifty with her money. She doesn't have any big ideas. She has lost about a stone in weight but that's because she has been busy working. She said she could have done with losing that. But hasn't gone down the route of dieting and trying to be something she's not and making herself ill in the process.
She is a breath of fresh air even though it was on one of Simon Cowell's talent shows. But he left Susan to get on with making her album as he knows he couldn't have pushed her because she's just not for that.

Well she certainly has the Anne Widdicombe factor, there's no doubt. Scares the hell out of me, cos she's patently not 100% "stable". As long as she's singing then fine, but if she talks.....

I hear a rumour that the X-Factor team started bricking it when she was cattapulted into mega stardom over night, and are trying to distance themselves from Global Boyle Corps lest she lose it bigtime during a live, probing TV interview and do an "Anne from Little Britain".

(Lift her skirt and go "eh eeh eeehhhhhh").
