Our old CRT tv takes a while to warm up/shows lines on the screen for a few minutes so maybe it is time to look for an LCD tv.

The problem is we have 4 digital boxes (Two PVRs, an HDD/video recorder, and a Skybox) connected by SCART and e.g. the Samsung LE40B530P-7 only has one SCART socket

How can we carry on using our various boxes with a modern tv and what model/gadget is recommended for this please, around 40" screen?

well almost any lcd tv at that size will have at least 2 scart sockets.

If thats not enough you cold try something like this http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Scart-Auto-Sel...3D11%26ps%3D63

Or you could try daisychaining the digiboxes.... eg, a vcr into scart 2 definately works....

ps... do you really need 2 pvrs, AND sky+ AND a hdd/vcr machine?

You can very likely manage with one SCART by daisy chaining as r mitchell suggested, I would assume the PVRs have 2 SCART sockets and allow pass thru when in standby.

You're right, we probably don't need the DVD or Skybox connected all the time, but it would be a step back to maually switch SCARTS for them

Likewise the daisy chain and pass-through because we switch the power for the boxes on and off with a remote at the moment.

I like the look of the argos gadget, thanks for that too

Yes and we use one SCART to the TV and one on a switch to the DVD recorder.

Also they have pass thru which is used already when one is in standby, or so they can both be recording things while we watch a different channel or recording... can't remember when we last sat through any ads!

Do LCD tvs really only keep going for only four or five years as I gathered recently? and could you recommend any particular models for best picture qualty around £500-£600 and lots of SCARTS, digital tuner not being important

No of course not
Worth noting that when you look back 5 years LCD panels were vastly expensive even if you were looking at them for a computer monitor, prices started to crash from mid 2005 onwards as larger screens appeared so domestic wise they ain't been around long enough to get bad rep

There is no reason to expect a LCD or other flat panel not to offer many years of service based on the technology but of course build quality (well known brands or not) can hurt a particular make/model more than others.

My Philips 32" LCD is 5 years old next week and going as strong as ever

No of course they don't, although cheap junk ones don't last long, exactly as cheap junk CRT ones didn't.

You're not going to get lot's of SCART's - SCART is effectively dead now, and being replaced by HDMI. But a decent make TV should have two SCART's, three or four HDMI, Component, S-Video, Composite, and VGA.
