Foxsat HDR and internet

I guess there is a simple answer to this. But can anyone tell me how to connect my foxsat box to the interent to use iplayer ?

There is no instruction at all in the manual that came with the box, ...so is it supposed to come to me by some form of divine intervention ?

I have got as far as plugging an ethernet cable from my modem to the HDR. And I've found 'Configure ethernet' under System/ Network.

Then what ?

Page GB55 of the manual. Select Configure Ethernet, choose DHCP (assuming you've got a normal router set up), the select Apply.

Thanks for the reply. Did that already. Great if its as simple as that. But then what do I do,..what do I do to get to the iplayer menu if there is such a thing? Nothing has changed..i still have the same menu options as before, and can only find the usual freesat and non freesat stuff.

Check in the network screen that your box has been assigned an IP address. I haven't tried it myself as my broadband is not good enough for IPTV, but have a look in the iPlayer thread. I think you go to Red Button then enter the code (5483 I think) as a page number. Then you should get the iPlayer menu. Has your box had the latest software update? I think it needs it for iPlayer.

Yep its filled all the usual data in, IP address, subnet mask etc etc.

But I still have no idea how to actually access any iplayer content. No idea where to enter the 4 digit code.

Perhaps somebody else who has used it already can help.

Cheers.

OK I got it now. I was expecting to see some new screen inviting me to type in the code when I pressed that red button, ..but no.

Thanks for help.

It's only a beta application that has just been soft-launched!

Yep I know.

Anyway I've seen it now. No doubt I will be hurling towards my Talk Talk 40gb a month so better turn it off (for good).

You can leave it connected because the box only uses the internet connection when you actually use iPlayer (or any future interactive service making use of this mechanism) and not otherwise.

Disabling it might be useful if you have curious persons who would use it without understanding the bandwidth caps. But you can't unconsciously waste bandwidth.

Yep. The problem I have is that I have no idea how much of the 40gb I have used at any point of a month. Except for this Freesat/Iplayer thing my useage is very low.

Anyway, usage is probably a matter for a different forum.

That's quiet useful to know for us folk on capped usage.

Cheers Bob
