What are you favourite artists or groups of the past decade?

Mine are

1) Britney Spears
2) Pink
3) Rihanna
4) Sugababes
5) Beyonce
6) Destiny's Child
7) Eminem
8) Christina Aguilera
9) Avril Lavigne
10) Mariah Carey

Mariah is at the bottom because her noughties material has been fairly good but compared to the other nine people, she hasn't blown me away.

I wanted to add Gaga but i made it realistic to include artists who have released more material then her.

Personally i think people's lists have been based by current artists, not overall artists. Which shows people clearly can't manage a list well on the best artists of the decade.

Well on my list, Eminem and Britney ruled the early 00's and are still producing some good material. Shakira is a huge star worldwide and her first album was fanatastic. Beyonce is the biggest female Rnb/pop crossover artist there is and her singles from IASF have been fantastic. Michael Buble and Alicia Keys are critically acclaimed acts with massive album success and have tons of respect in the music industry. Keys has been succesful for years but only very recently has Buble began to be noticed in the UK. Avril is still very young but has produced some great songs and her return in March is widely anticipated. I expect it'll be massive.

GaGa and BEP's were on the list 'cos they've ruled the music world all over the world in 2009.

8. Electrelane

Bar Lady Gaga I've tried to include people who've had several albums out over the decade not ten people who are currently in the top 40

There were several people who just missed out - Asobi Seksu, Sneaky Sound System, Black Eyed Peas sorry

And there were people who I would have included but having only releasedone album I think it's too early to include them: Little Boots, Maps, Passion Pit

I put the artists in my list who I think have been the best this decade. Not just because they are in the charts this year (JT wasn't. Unless you include collaborations).

Roughly in order:

Radiohead
Animal Collective
Sufjan Stevens
Joanna Newsom
TV on the Radio
Arcade Fire
Bjork
M.I.A.
Grizzly Bear
The Knife

Lots more. It's been a good decade for me as I've been able to listen to loads of stuff outside of the mainstream which is more to my taste.

Someone with taste similar to mine. Id definitely pick these 3; The Cure are my favourite band, closely followed by Radiohead and Muse.

In no particular order:

Ryan Adams
Nickel Creek
John Mayer
Grand Drive
Ray LaMontagne
Kings of Leon
Jesse Malin
Bruce Springsteen (obviously he pre-dates this decade by quite a bit, but he has had a brilliant career revival)
Norah Jones
Counting Crows (their best stuff is from the nineties, but they are still phenomenal live)

A tad premature. The decade doesn't end until 31 December, 2010.
