"Ahh do you remember the noughties, when the music was full of [X]"

60s, 70s, 80s, and especially 90s had their own sound, so what's the the noughties' ?

Lady GaGa was the overall theme I'd say. When she became massive, everyone did a teeny bit of a copy-cat act.

But obviously thats just the past year, not sure about the rest.

Before Gaga was around, Gwen, Britney, Madonna and Robyn already had "her sound".

It was more her look that has been copied, but yet Gwen Stefani already had that during the L.A.M.B. years.

Gaga has only been around for a year & half so no way has her sound summed up the decade.

Its been a very mixed decade. We went through an early period of bubble gum pop with the likes of Britney Spears, N Sync etc

Then there were many fresh new bands.

Of course the rnb / dance sound.

Overall, this is one my least favourite decade.

I think disposable pop has been the theme.Theres been very few songs that'll still be played in 20 or 30 years time.

the noughties were the first decade NOT to have an original sound. no new genres, just re-hashing retro sounds, but what do you expect when manufactured acts and reality shows are accepted by music fans.

its time youth got its thinking head on and created its own identity.

Reality TV stars and celebrity is what this decade will be remembered for, I don't think much good music came out of this decade, but having said that a few artists will be looked back on with fondness and majority of people will be wondering why they never got the credit they deserved when people look back on the decade in years to come.

I don't know why you say ESPECIALLY 90s. I thought the 90s was such a boring decade for music That was the decade when music started going downhill. IMO the 80s was the greatest decade for music. It was such a fun and imaginative time.

To be honest the 00s has on the whole been a dreadfull time for music. It's just been so poor. We just seem to live in an era where very very few people can actually compose records with great catchy melodies that will be remembered for years and years to come.
We've had great records from the 70s and 80s rehashed and totally murdered. We've had to put up with the same style ballad after mind numbing ballad from groups like Westlife and also from the X Factor. (The only decent band to come out of those style shows was Girls Aloud).

The 60s, 70s and 80s were the three golden decades for music.
The 00s will be remembered as the decade that fun, great melodies and imagination forgot.

All the kids round here are into hardcore rave. Never get any in the charts though.There should be another teen movement to set the charts alight. Cant think of one 'classic' number one record.

I think indie became big again, with The Libertines and the Strokes, then Arctic Monkeys bringing it back fully.

At one time record companies used to look for new talent and trends on the "streets" so to speak, does this happen now?

I think the way it happens now is that an aspiring artist needs to make a demo tape, and get it heard by labels. However, the label will only even consider it if it's given to them by a trusted manager/agent, so it's an uphill struggle all the way

its not 'indie' though.... the 00's was the decade that relied on retro and re-wrote the definitions... its just guitar pop played by pop groups...

Middle of the road music (Dido , James Blunt , Duffy , Adele , Coldplay , Keane , David Gray , Snow Patrol , James Morrison , The Script , The X Factor winners singles etc...)

Ok she's big like, not massive. BEP have had as many no.1's this year, sold as much, don't see the same MASSIVE label attached to them.

And 2009 has been pretty poor year for the charts IMO, even by 00s standards. Nothing REALLY outstanding.

I think the 00s have been a really weird decade on many levels. Everything seems very shallow, overly marketed and cynical, and the music has reflected it.

I was thinking about the Joe McElderry record the other day and how it is entirely possible that everyone involved with making the record could have felt absolutely no emotional involvement with what they were producing. Sounds like it anyway, and the lad can sing.

2009 has been dominated by generic Urban Pop and Indie is basically dead mainstream wise , i hope this is not a sign of things to come in the tennies.

I would say more retro techno pop but this appeared in the latter years of the noughties - we have Tinchy Stryder, Taio Cruz, Gaga, La Roux, etc.

Usually when looking back you associate a colour with respective decades. Like the 70's you have Brown, 80's Neon whilst the 00's I would say were a very unattractive pale grey!

Bring back the 90's.

Not rubbish, just very mixed compared to other decades.

Earlyish 00'th's had a lot of British indie-ish type music popular (Franz Ferdinand, Kaiser Chiefs). Then there was an R&B phase. Now it's gone back to cheesey disco-pop with an edge.(ala Gaga, etc)
