Her second album was pretty amazing pop. Just read some of the reviews it got, some of the best I've seen for a female pop artist.

There isn't one song on the album that I don't like. Total guilty pleasure.

So why did it? Was she just too bland to carry a solo album? Admittedly it is down to the songwriters and producers that the album is as good as it is, but same for most pop artists.

this is totally just imo, but i find her pretty boring tbh.

she's bland, and there's nothing there to interest me.

there are a number of people more successful than her that i could say the same about though.

Yeah, I thought that was the case after watching some of her videos on youtube. She has no life, she has these great songs and she's stood around in her undies doing bad dance routines..... could've done so much more with the material she had.

She actualy would have got quite a few number 1 hits if downloads were counted in the charts then. Lots of people downloaded her music but they didn't want to be caught buying it in the shops for some reason.

Her 2nd album was a pretty damned good pop album.

Lack of talent.
Like too many females in music living off her looks.
Zilch personality.

Well her first album was a great success going Platinum and having 3 top 3 singles from it, maybe all that was down to hype of S-Club fans with a member having a solo career which wore of by the time of her second album. An example of the Softmore Slump (aka Mika's 2nd album) and she didn't (untill next year) release a third album to get her sales back on track.

It says on Wiki that in 2003 she signed a 4 album deal with Polydor, does anyone know if thats true?

I like Rachel, and she did some good songs, but she really doesnt seem to have that much to her. She just seems like a pretty, but normal girl.. no real spark. I felt the same on about her on Strictly too.

God ages ago like 4 years back maybe. Her stuff did well in the downloads (which didn't count towards the charts back then), she seemed a guilty secret for many.

She didn't shake of her kid pop face, she was always very careful what to say as popstars whos main fanbase is kids have to do. I think she has got better at this though.

It also didn't help her that she was forced to release arguably the weakest and safer songs on her 2nd album.

I wouldn't say it was down to S Club hype, didn't it bomb at first (When the hype would have been at it's peak) after the first Single (La Ex) and then Funky Dory totally bombed, then she had Some Girls which was for Sports Relief which got a lot (deserved imo) attention and boosted sales, then she had the More More More song from the Sky advert which again boosted her, so it was more down to the songs/extra work that got her first albums slight success.

The Second album is imo very good, I love So Good, one of my favourite pop songs, Negotiate with Love and I Said Never Again (But Here We Are) are another 2 great pop tracks, but I think as has already been said, it was her personality that let her down, or at least her personality really came across in any way really so there was probably little connection.

Just read on Wiki that her second album made the Guardian's list of 1000 albums to listen to before you die, for what the album is, I must say it is very good. It's hardly groundbreaking or thought provoking, it's light, throwaway pop, but very good light, throwaway pop.

I hope she does well with her relaunch.

Come and Get It could have possibly been ahead of its time, CAGI electro pop is selling quite well nowadays. If she is going to relaunch now would be the time to do it. If I remember in 2005, pop wasn't doing that good, the charts were full of indie bands like snow patrol etc.

Rachel has also probably expaneed her fanbase due to Strictly. She has a quite large, loyal, bordering on fanatical stricly fanbase of all ages now.

1. She only had one decent song

2. She relies too heavily on her looks. no personality or talent to strike that balance, so she comes off as arrogant. she's always on the cover of fhm or nuts, she comes off a bit cheap.

3. She's incredibly desperate... I remember when band aid 20 came out, she wasnt even asked to feature in the song/video but just showed up anyway.. When sweet dreams my LAX came out she milked that tune for about two years on various tv shows/charity events to the point where it was like "jesus cant she sing something else"

all these factors dont really strike a chord with people.

Agreed.. she just doesn't seem all that talented, never sings live always miming and as for your third point its so true made me cringe when that came out that she was only there cos I think of Will Young was invited and she tagged along.. I remember Estelle hinting someone next to her wasn't singing but was miming and lo and behold guess who was near her - Rachel!

I read she wants to make a Pop Comeback, but I fear she's probably too old now.
