Sony DAV-DZ280 Surround Sound System advice needed

Hi
We received the Z280 as a christmas present today and positioned the speakers around the room and we can get full surround when watching a DVD but when watching TV sound comes through the front two and sub only. Is this normal or are we doing something wrong?

Not necessarily. What was the programme?

Films and bigger production TV programmes in stereo should give you Dolby Pro Logic sound, if you're connecting to the TV via SCART, and sound is reaching the Sony okay.

But unless a programme was specifically encoded for any surround sound experience, there's no reason to expect it, per se.

For instance, last night's Dr Who should have come across to you in surround sound.

But don't expect too much from it, it's a tight budget system.
