Hi,

I want to get a new tv in the January sales. Ideally 37" but would settle for 32". Have about £350 quid to spend.

I'm interested in all the usual things; best possible HD quality, tv/sound quality, and the necessary input ports (including vga).

I know this is pretty lazy of me but if anyone out there has spied any great deals I'd be very apreciative.

Cheers

Here's a 32" for £249.95 http://www.richersounds.com/product/.../sams-le32b350

I don't know whether it's a good or bad TV so you will need to do some research if interested.

Geoff.

It's only HD Ready, Not full HD ready, eg 1080p.

This one is £80 more expensive but is full HD ready.

Unfortunately the description doesn't say if it has a headphone socket or not.

Otherwise I'd have gone for it too.

Yes unfortunately no headphone socket, which is no good for me as I mainly watch using headphones.

@ Op. Are you sure about the need for VGA?

Most computers (including many laptops) sport HDMI and/or DVI sockets these days.

So even if your TV only has a couple of hdmi sockets, you can still connect your computer:

DVI -> HDMI adapter -> HDMI cable -> TV or DVI -> DVI-HDMI cable -> TV

or straight

HDMI to HDMI (that's how my computers are connected).

It allows you to view protected blu-ray (PC BLU-Ray drive & software) or protected TV broadcast HD broadcasts (from PCI satellite card in computer & USB CAM card adapter).

The blu-ray drive is the only major difference between a standard computer and a home theatre computer these days.

you wont get much in the way of quality on a 32/37inch at £350. You need to be looking at £500+. Best option is to shop around for End of line deals, models that are about to be replaced - this could get you in the price range, but you wont have the latest spec. The other option is to pick a cheap brand like Bush, that would get the price down, but dont expect much in the way of picture quality, ease of use, or reliability (all 3 being critical on LCD tv's).

The only ports I have on my laptop are 3 usb, an ethernet and a vga port. My laptops only 3 months old but it was pretty much the lowest spec one Dell do.

Unfortunately that's all I have to spend. Hence why I was hoping there maybe a few end of line deals in the January sales. I'm not massively worried about having all the latest features but obviously I want to get something future proof (hence full HD). I do have a VM HD box so it's worth it for me.

You really do not need Full HD to be future proof with this size of set it does not have much relevance, you are going to struggle though I'm afraid to get a decent set for this price

EDIT: This is a superb TV for the price, do not let 720P put you off, but if you could somehow push your budget further this is much better.

It's cheap because it's complete rubbish, and comes with no spares availability or service - expected life about two years?.

Alba are complete junk, just cheap badged tat - but LG don't seem too bad at all, we've sold a fair few and had no problems. I was talking to the Sharp service guy the other year, as they also do LG's service as well, and he was saying LG have really pulled their socks up, and the newer sets have been really good.
