River City
Does anyone here watch river city? (a Scottish soap incase you didn't know) What do you think of it and the characters?
I think that the Aberdonian person (can't remember her name) has one of the worst accents in soap history and the actress even comes from Aberdeen!!

Some of it's still as bad as it was the night it first aired & I lasted 10 mins but a few storylines I think have been really well done. The rape/murder one I loved & Kelly's alleged pregnancy I enjoyed also. I've even warmed to Boab & Deke these days. As for the Aberdonian one, any idea what she's saying

I do watch this, I think its terrible and really badly acted but somehow I enjoy it and feel the need to watch it every week. Roisin is awful, I've never heard Aberdonians speak like this although she is actually meant to be from there. I'm from Dumbarton (where it's filmed) and know a taxi driver who picks them up sometimes. He says she sits in the back of the cab practising her lines and she talks the exact same way in real life. Johnny Beattie (Malcolm) is terrible though, oh it pains me to watch him struggle through each episode!!

![]() Agree about Roisin though, the faces she pulls are very scary !!! I think that girl who lives in the pub, cannae remember her name, is the most wooden actress on the show !!! She is terrible, almost as bad as she was in Sweet Sixteen! |

This show is an embarasment to scotland.
I can bare to watch about ten minutes, then ive got to switch over! One of the problems i feel, is the bad acting. There are so many charators who cant act and storylines that are just not interesting! PLEASE AXE IT NOW |

They even manage to get on the scottish bit on Children In Need and ruin that. It's just pure crap.

Rossin needs a voice coach!
George needs some acting lessons, along with: raymond, stevie and that johnny beatie! The whole show is a joke and should be axed. and to think.......it costs tv licence payers £14 million.......talk about a waste of money! |

My mum's mate was speaking to someone who used to work with the actress (if thats what you could call her) who plays Roisin (I think she was a nurse but I could be wrong) and even they say that she can't act but she's great to work with.
Just a thought, but who actually tells these people that they can act?!?! |

Thing is (with the exception of obviously the usual Scottish suspects) I think most Scottish actors appear wooden on screen, particularly when they are the only Scots in the programme/film. When you have a whole bunch of them together in one soap it's difficult for it not to turn into Gepetto's shop of horrors!
Ooh, watch as I turn my back on my nation!!! I should be ashamed of myself, although I do enjoy River City for what it is - crap but it knows it! |

Come oan gie it a chance!!
I was a long term Emmerdale viewer but recently decided to DITCH Emmerdale due to the "mad, mourning Marlon" storyline. And to be honest, the imminent arrival of a wooden patsy kensit was the last straw........
So now River City is my Soap of Choice! But i'm already finding that only 2 episodes a week doesn't give you a chance to "engage" with the characters. The sets are superb, very expensive looking and I'm going to stick with River City for a while. The "Roisin" character is the most awful, surreal, yet strangely compelling, person I have ever seen in a UK soap....I also find her facial expressions disturbing. Of course she's only there so that no- one could accuse the producers of "Central Belt domination"!! I predict that as the character develops, Roisin will become something of a cult figure- a national treasure like "heather with the weather" .....? |
