Who are your inspirations in Synth Music? What are your Fav Synth track from the late 70's & 80's?

Big Gary Numan fan here!

Here is a video of John Foxx still going as good as ever keeping it as a good Synth track should sound like!

Plenty of people will provide all the usual examples - for better and for worse, lesser and greater - and so I would just like to get in now and say that anyone who likes to see the modern continuation of 'pure' synth music should familiarise themselves with chart-ignored Client's first two albums 'Client' and 'City'.

This is their website http://www.client-online.net/ but for some bizarre reason my browsers tell me it's not accessible. They're not exactly commercially successful, and I wouldn't be surprised if they've disbanded.

You can hear the music on Amazon etc. It's well worth it for anyone who wishes synth music sounds like it used to.

The German masters of synth - Kraftwerk!

...and their UK counterparts - Depeche Mode.

...and i'm a child of the 90s Theres just something hypnotic about synths. I'm a big fan of house & electronica and think that it's only right to pay respects to where its roots lie.

I worked with Martin Gore when he did part-time shelf stacking @ Tescos in 1978

Likewise I am a big fan of 70s and 80s synth music and particularly like Gary Numan/Tubeway Army and John Foxx. I was introduced to a lot of it by my mother when I was younger and was sufficiently inspired to learn to play the keyboard.

I do like the music of a lot of the usual suspects (Jean Michel Jarre, The Sparks, OMD, Depeche Mode etc.) but I have recently rediscovered my love for both"Situation" by Yazoo and "All Stood Still" by Ultravox, both of which I had not listened to for quite a few years.

Speaking of The Sparks (too underrated by far), I must recommend "Tryouts from the Human Race," which was a minor UK hit in the late 70s from "No. 1 in Heaven." The title song "The Number One Song In Heaven" surely has to be one of the best synth tracks of all time in itself but the eeriness of "Tryouts for the Human Race" gives it an extra edge for me.

If you like classical music, check out Isao Tomita. His classical arrangements on the Moog Synthesizer are amazing, if you are into it. There's plenty on Youtube.

I use this as their website: http://www.client-online.eu

and they definately have not disbanded as they only released their 4th album this year.

Some of my fave synthy bands are Covenant, De/Vision and Seabound.

I'm a big synth music fan (hence the username) and love most of the artists named above, especially the 70s and 80s artists.

Loved Jarre, Kraftwerk, Vangelis and Moroder and later Depeche Mode, John Foxx, BEF and OMD.

I like Gary Numan, they are usually a metal band, but check out Fear Factory's (ft Gary himself) version of Cars.

I also really like The Buggles (Age of Plastic is a fantastic album) and New Musik (From A To B is one of my most played LP's of all time)

I don't think many people would associate Duran Duran with synth music but just listen to this. The synths on this record from their first album are just fantastic.
