Vaticans Myspace PLAYLIST: http://music.myspace.com/index.cfm?f...1&plid=1256850

If this isn't an indication of how influential the late Tupac Shakur, and his music, is ... and was, then what is?

A song from the late rapper's catalog was recently included as part of the Vatican's official MySpace Music playlist.

According to CNN, the seat of the Catholic Church released a list of 12 songs onto the social networking website's streaming music service this week when the site launched in the United Kingdom.

Tupac's single, "Changes", was one of the tracks, alongside selections from Mozart, Muse and Dame Shirley Bassey.

"The genres are very different from each other, but all these artists share the aim to reach the heart of good minded people," the Vatican wrote on it's official MySpace Music page (MySpace.com/MusicFromTheVatican).

As of Friday night (December 4), "Changes" had been played more than 4.7 million times on the site.

Reports indicate that the list was compiled by Father Giulio Neroni, artistic director of church publisher St Paul's Multimedia. He was also responsible for compiling the Vatican's recent Alma Mater album, which combined Gregorian chants and prayers with classical music and the voice of Pope Benedict XVI speaking in five languages.

More than a decade after his death, Tupac's music continues to influence the world.

He was gunned down in a drive-by shooting in Las Vegas on September 7, 1996, and died days later (September 13) in University Medical Center in Vegas as as result of the gunshot wounds.

Odd choice. A bunch of white, mind-numbingly religious old people choosing a song about the struggles of being a poor, black man in America.

With songs like this people tend to listen to the chorus and make assumptions from that.

Although it could be loosely a message which could be attached to any situation where a minority, or struggling group, is being victimised, but the Vatican using it... I don't get that. In fact, through history the Catholic Church haven't been the kindest to other cultural and religious groups. Perhaps the song is a subtle hint that they're going to change their ways

I guess they just want to be hip.
