Yes, it works exactly as you'd expect.

How good is the MiFi ? Depends on the price you pay, whether you have multiple devices you want to connect to the net and what 3 coverage is like where you want to use it. If you only have a laptop, get a USB dongle. If you have laptop, netbook, iPod Touch, etc then get the Mifi. If you're only going to use these at home, don't bother, use your normal connection to the net.

I believe there are similar products, but they may not be available yet, or at a similar price.

thanks for the reply
i just need a connection for my ipod touch when i am out and about ,like you say i can connect it to my broadband connection when at home.

i just need a connection when i'm out and about so that i can check sites like ebay & twitter etc & just a bit of web browsing really.

i do travel about a bit but 3 coverage seems ok around built up areas according to their coverage map on their website.

Is anybody succesfully using the mifi with ipod touch ?..I am wondering how much I would get through in a month just doing simple browsing. Have no idea if i need 1gb or 5gb...

I tried it, 2 in fact, and on both the red indicator was on 90% of the time, meaning virtually no connection at all, and I just couldn't use it. Sadly, I took it back and got a refund.

i bought one this week
i went for the 69.99 option
ie £20 for 3GB,must be used within 3 months

i've only been using it today for simple browsing ...etc
seems to work ok in built up areas, not surprisingly ,i couldn't get a signal out in the countryside.
i'd need to use it a bit longer in different locations to give a real opinion on this product.

i don't know how you are supposed to work out how much of your monthly data allowance you have downloaded which is annoying
there is a MIFI App to do just this but it doesn't work in the uk apparently .

if you are going to go for the PAYG rather than monthly contract then i'd say start with 1GB/month as you can easily top up when it runs out.

no i don't use trains so got no idea about that.

edit should mention one annoying point
when you get a signal and connect, all the lights go out on the mifi so it's easy to forget to turn it off when you've finished browsing.

Is it a bit of a faff swithcing on both the mifi and the touch ? I mean to extent that it might be worth paying 20 quid more for an iphone ?

once you've put in the mifi password
the ipod touch will connect automatically to the mifi each time

the mifi has 3 buttons /
turn mifi on/off
turn wifi on/off
and a connect button
it's straightforward,it's only annoying if you can't get a signal

With BT FON can you use it on the move, e.g. on a train, or would you constantly have to reconnect to the nearest hotspot as you go along ?

Actually, looking at the mental prices on BT's website,..I'm not interested. But thanks for mentioning.

I've just got the MIFI Dongle last night and today is the first day i've tried to use it.

As the poster above said, the lights go off after a few seconds and you can't tell if its still switched on or not!

Also, i've managed to connect to the net but the signal indicator is still red...confused:

That MiFi thing looks a tad kinda, er, useless?

If you had a suitable phone, say running on Windows Mobile or Symbian, you can have the same basic service available via software - not sure of the WM options, but on Symbian you can install JoikuSpot - converts your phone into a WiFi hotspot.

I've used it a few times, and it worked better on my N85 or N95 than the 3 USB dongle ever did. And I didn't need to take out a separate device with me.

The red means it's a very weak signal. Be preapred for constant dropouts and loss of connection.

The device could be very good...if only it worked properly.

It's like any wi fi I suppose, you would have to keep reconnecting on a train.. In fact i don't think wifi would work at all on a train.

dont forget to get it via topcashback.co.uk or others, I did and got £20 cashback on the PAYG contract (when bought vis 3s website, for me it was £49.99 before the CB). i find it good for getting more out of my 3broadband contract and will soon be using it on my new PSP. In poor signal areas its good for having it at the window with my laptop elsewhere without the need for a long USB cable. the problem with using you phone as a hotspot is it drains the battery so fast.
