Humax PVR and mpeg recording?

Would the Humax need to re encode the files to record in .mpeg format rather than .ts format?

I'm not keen on the .ts format as it doesn't play well in VLC player unlike .mpeg formats.

Is it a software or hardware issue?

I just rename the recordings on my PC from *.ts to *.mpg and they playback fine. Nero recognises them too when I burn them to DVD.

Thanks for the advice I forgot you could do that.

I thought .ts was a slightly different coding to .mpg?

Yes I think it could be but I'm afraid someone else will have to give us the technical details about that

All I know is that it works, for some reason

Unfortunately it doesn't seem to have solved my editing problem.

I use womble video editor to edit out the adverts but when I play the edited file on VLC and then try to skip ahead using the seek bar, I lose the sound.

If I play the file continuously the sound remains.

Does anyone know why this happens?

.ts is transport stream mpeg2 for SD files and as far as the the video data is concerned its the same as programme stream .mpg files.

Conversion between the two formats is lossless. Try TSmuxerGUI.

Thanks for the info and the software recommendation.

Unfortunately it didn't help and the file still had sound issues after editing out the adverts.

I'm sure it is the Womble software that is the problem.

The best software I know for seamless editing although not free is videoredo plus or videoredo tvsuite

I'm probably pre-historic, but for conversion and editing of SD material I still use PVAStrumento and Cuttermaran, which are both free. No problems with audio sync; you often have to delete the audio track with the extra info on it and I'm never sure which one that is, but it still just works for me. There are guides for both tools on the web, which Google should find.

Yes I used to use those 2 programmes too for mpeg stuff but I found Womble much easier to use.

I might try them with a .ts file but to be honest I'm only taking about 0.50gig off most shows so it may not be worth the extra effort.

.ts files play back OK using VLC but if I edit them using womble I lose the sound once I use the seek bar.

I'm just trying to figure out why that is happening.

Have you tried using VLC to convert the file first? You can select the file type of your choice if I remember rightly.
