I loved the bit at the beginning when they showed tracks that are the biggest selling and it had Gareth Gates, Bob The Builder and Shayne Ward...

and people still (especially on this board) think sales are everything

20.Will Young - Leave Right Now
19.Kaiser Chiefs - Ruby
18.Mark Ronson/Amy Winehouse - Valerie
17.Coldplay - Viva La Vida
16.Franz Ferdinand - Take Me Out

These channel 4 votes all seem to be voted on by 30-40 year old men. They don't seem to be particularly representative.

I'm loving it. Keep being reminded about songs I loved. A few I don't love so much but the interviews are quite amusing too.

I'm watching it and predicting that Arctic Monkeys (Dancefloor) will be no. 1. Also Beyonce in the top 3 (Crazy in Love).

Watched the TV one yesterday and The Wire, The Sopranos and West Wing were all missing, so don't expect a definitive list. (I largely excludes the US).

Chasing Cars will surely be high up. Bleeding Love too maybe.

I do prefer RTW to Patience which I assume is the song that has already charted. Love it

Maybe - I don't like either personally. Any way, Beyonce was no. 8. Take That at 7, Gnarls Barkley at 6.

I like it because it reminds me of being out in Croatia with my mates. That's often the way with favourite songs - they're connected to something personal.

Yellow could be high up too.

Does anyone know the missing positions?

i don't agree with much of it, but then they haven't said who they asked/who compiled the list, so... that might explain a bit.

I predict Chasing Cars is no 1.

Well I was wrong with my prediction for no. 1 (not my choice - just what I thought would be no.1 - although I like the track a lot)

I was close. The Killers are at no.2, so an all or nothing prediction for no.1 - The Climb by Joe McElderry.

Or One day like this by Elbow (I wish)

Actually Toxic by Britney could be no. 1

i'm hoping for none of them.

in my ideal world, it would be the strokes' "last night".

but a poll by yougov is not my ideal world, unfortunately.

Well done. However, I didn't realise this was a poll of Britain's most boring band.

Me neither.

The fact that Leona Lewis made that cover of 'Run' sound more exciting than Snow Patrol says it all really. Even 'Travis' would make Snow Patrol sound exciting.

That a dirge like 'Chasing Cars' could beat mainstream masterpieces like 'Mr Brightside' and 'Take Me Out' is proof - were it needed - that the world is under heavy sedation.

it seems the poll was taken by some middle aged men or skinny jean wearing teens who have messy hair and have over sized bags

Where was britney/Justin Timberlake/Leona/Maroon 5 etc

The poll seemed full of songs from 2006 onwards for the most part

I couldn't disagree more; I think that's an incredibly sweeping generalisation. Songs such as 'Chasing Cars' are universally acclaimed across a number of different generations and types of people. It's the type of song that is popular with many who don't generally like that genre of music.

All in all, I thought it was a great top 20 - I have all of them on my iPod, funnily! Surprised by the absence of 'Bleeding Love', 'Toxic' and 'Umbrella', but also happy to see a lot of the songs from the first half of the decade weren't neglected.

i'd hazard a guess that that's why you thought it was such a good list
