As a local Cats Protection branch representative, I can assure you that this is vital.
We have had to stop all incoming cats at our branch
It's sad and no doubt because of this there is the potential for abandonments and the like
but we've had no alternative. We have to hope that RSPCA and local charities can cope until we re-open for incoming cats.
We are full to bursting and against regulations fostering cats in bathrooms and anywhere we can find space.
After a few more have been adopted, we can open the floodgates again, but we will be swamped, again..
That's the nature of the beast... far too many cats. That's why we even offer free neutering to those on a low income (and we can barely afford to offer that service as we are a charity ourselves)
I cannot stress highly enough the importants of neutering both male and female from a young age
