Just replaced my setup as above. Have searched a couple of similar previous threads but just want to be sure. I now have nowhere to plug in the aerial in and rf out leads that previously went in the back of my sky+ box.

I have a black box thing attached to the side of my house which I assume is some sort of splitter. It was fitted to put extra points in the house for 3 other tv's. I could watch the sky in these other rooms but obviously now can't. Not that bothered about that but have also lost connection to the normal house aerial and do can't get the freeview on those tv's which I am bothered about.

What should I do with the 2 leads which previously went into the sky box? Do I need a rf modulator or something. As above only really concerned with making the other tv's get the connection to my normal aerial again for the freeview.

You need to add an external modulator if you want to send the hdr pictures. If you have a vcr you can use the modulator in that to do the same job. If you dont want to add the hdr signal just join the rf leads together

Thanks for that. Have bought an universal modulator but still can't get it to work. Have attached the scart from the VCR bit of the humax to the mod and the aerial in and rf connector to the mod but still my tv's can't see it. I have the 8 point switch set to number 8 only which I think is the test.

Not sure what you mean by 8 point switch. The modulator outputs the hdr signal as an analogue TV station on whatever UHF channel you choose (21-69). You need to tune the modulator to a channel that's not used by your local transmitter. Then you have to use the analogue tuner on the remote TVs to tune to the modulator channel. Best way is start at 21 and work up (tuning one remote TV each time you change channels) till you find a clear channel

My problem is though that the other tv's can't see anything and therefore I have lost my freeview in the other rooms (those tv's have inbuilt freeview) They don't seem to be connected at all to the aerial since unplugginlg the sky. Lack of cbeebies causing me a headache (for my lad)

Is this normal or will it only work once I have got the other tv's picking up the humax signal. At the moment whatever I try on the modulator the other tv's don't see anything on the auto tune on both normal aerial and the freeview??

You have to route your aerial via the modualtor input, the modulator then simply adds its own channel to the ones from your aerial.

Look at this diagram which shows a hdr with a modulator working with a sky box. In your case you need to split the incoming aerial preferably with a plug in amp that sends one output to your TV and the other to the modulator input.

Thanks for your continued assistance & patience. Think I am being a bit thick. I thought the modulator would just do what the old sky box did. The aerial in cable and the rf one both cone from outside into my living room. The living room tv is only connected to the foxsat.

I assume the aerial in comes straight from the roof and the other cable goes into the splitter on the side of the house that in turn drives the extra aerial points. I have set the modulator to ch 68 (the old sky box default) and still nothing. I thought simply plugging these 2 cables into the mod and attaching the mod to the humax via scart would sort it.

If I can't get cbeebies back soon am in trouble!

Take the aerial lead you have connected to the modulator and plug it straight into the TV to check all the terrestrial channels are there. Does the modulator have some sort of indication that it's getting power like a led. Check the scart lead you are using is properly plugged in. If you have a set of phono cables connect the modulator to the hdr using the yello/red/white rca phono outputs. If all this fails it sounds as if the modulators duff. You would be better off with one with a digital display.

Thanks. Think the modulator is a bit duff. All works fine with the 2 leads simply plugged into the old sky box. Have taken the mod back although I now have both the humax and the sky plugged in which seems a bit daft. Unless there is anything else useful I could use the sky box for? Ideally I would flog the sky box.

Haven even tried plugging an old vcr in but that doesn't seem to work either.

Yes plug the vcr scart lead from the humax into the sky box vcr scart and put it in sby. Pretty sure this routes the vcr scart on the sky box to rf1 and rf2 out.

Unfortunately it will not. There is no connection between the scarts and the RF modulator in a Sky digibox (or usually anything other than VCRs or DVD recorders).

To the OP does connecting the two coax cables together that plugged into the Sky box's RF input and RF 2 output restore Freeview to the other rooms? If it doesn't you have damaged those cables or loosened the connectors on them.

Have restored the freeview in the other rooms just by having the 2 leads plugged into the sky box so am happy other than the fact I have the sky box still plugged in alongside the humax which seems a bit of a waste, probably should just re route my main aeria direct to the other tv's for the freeview.

You don't need the Sky box for that, just plug the two aerial leads together that are in the back of the Sky box, one is male and one is female, they simply plug together and that feeds the terrestrial aerial through to your TV.

Have just tried that but no joy. Would have been a great solution for me. Wonder if anything to do with the black box on the side of the house that the rf out goes to. Does it need power or something to it that the sky box provides? Not sure what it is other than it has "x140" on the outside of it. Don't fancy the ladders in this weather. Cheers.

It's probably an amplifier, and is powered up the coax - the 'magic eye' output from the Sky box probably powers it, so without the Sky box you will need a power supply to feed it.

Unfortunately Freesat boxes are lacking a lot of basic features that Sky boxes have - is it the HDR you've bought?, or just the standard box? - if it's just the standard box you could have just kept the Sky box as FreeSat From Sky.

Is the HDR. I quite like the box so far. Think I will just have to run the aerial direct to the other points. Not bothered about watching the humax in the other rooms although would have been nice if it had all the connections for a smooth transition. My fault for not checking properly.

Unless you take the amplifier out, you still need to supply power for it.
