i never saw that one coming! i actually really enjoyed that snippet of them two together battling the sontaron.
will there be any chance of any of the characters from RTD's era ever making an appearance on moffats who? i will find it slightly unbelievable if some are not even mentioned. considering DT's doctor kept bumping into them and mentioning them, i dont see why just because hes regenerated the same cant happen?

I think it most likely they'll turn up in Torchwood. But I personally hope that's not right.

New Torchwood still ain't been officially confirmed yet so there's no saying if it'll even back, much less who'll be in it.

They ain't in Torchwood as of now though, as they mentioned they were 'freelance'. Which is kinda cool!

They're freelance. Nothing to do with Torchwood or Unit. I got the feeling they were together by the end of the scene but isn't Martha married to Dr Millikan? Confused.

Well its never stated they got divorced but seeing as shes now married to Mickey she must have divorced Tom, I don't think Martha's the type for Bigamy.

I'm not sure it was ever confirmed that she married that doctor - she was engaged to him when she met up with the Doctor in Series 4 - then left with Mickey at the end of that.

In Torchwood, all it was mentioned was that she was on her honeymoon, they never said who with.

I took that scene as Mickey just being there for Martha. I think everyone except Rose saw the Doctor's appearances as a little goodbye moment for the tenth Doctor. It never struck me that Mickey and Martha might be married.

Mikey says something along the lines of 'This isn't a place for a married women' and Martha replies 'You shoudn't have married me then. So Its safe to say they are married.

Oh right I guess I misheard that line then in all the excitement. "You shoulden't get married then" is what I thought I heard.

I guess you could rationalise it that Martha knew her life was always gonna be a dangerous one and she couldn't just 'settle down'. Chances are she left her fiance to protect him.

Hooking up with Mickey is a much more natural partnership, given their vocation. And seriously, if you were Mickey... you would, wouldn't ya.

I thought she said 'HE shouldn't have married me then'.

We don't know for a fact she married Tom.

We know she was engaged to Tom in Series 4, but nothing's to say that after meeting Micky she didn't split up with him. In Children of Earth a passing reference is made to Martha being on her honeymoon so I'm guessing that was with Micky

I liked the reference in the credits to Martha Smith-Jones.

Martha broke up with Tom after he started appearing in that dreadful programme with Miranda Hart.

The point was that the Doctor was in his "changing history for the good" mood as a final goodbye thing, and saved Martha and Mickey from being shot. This of course could have happened in say the year 2020 or whatever, just as he went back to 1995 to see Rose, therefore anything could have happened and is plausible explanation as to why Mickey and Martha are freelance alien hunters.

True

Expect "Smith and Jones - Alien investigators" coming to BBC3 at some point. Would also be a nice touch for one of the episodes to be based around sontarans and include this scene again

Still, really really doubt that would ever happen.

The free lance thing seems to be recent as Martha goes: you persuaded me to to freelance, and as they were being all newly weds with the: you shouldn't have married me then I suppose its pretty recent and Martha's absence from TW was explained by being on her honeymoon BUt she never came back.

I figure it was probably always the plan to have them get together in TW3 but as both actors went back on the orginal plan for them to be in it. They probably just switched to their characters end in this special.

Yes that would be interesting spin off, you never know! However wouldnt that make the number of people and agencies chasing after the odd alien pretty high, imagine UNIT, Torchwood, Sarah Jane and Mickey and Martha all turning up at same place after one alien

Just because they are freelance at that particular time doesn't mean they have to be freelance forever.

Maybe, they get home from fighting the sontaran to find Jack on their doorstep offering them a job? Who knows! IF RTD wants them there and they want to be there I am sure they will write a way in.
