Yeah they do look more old school style and it will be interesting to see where this lot are from.

Whatever they look like, Moffat needs to have a very strong story to repair the damage done to the Daleks - in my opinion at least (covering myself..)

In 2005, 'Dalek' was brilliant. A single Dalek took down a secure underground base. The Doctor was hell bent on torturing it, and was almost ready to sacrifice Rose to destroy it. Resolution, the Dalek had to kill itself.

In "Parting of the Ways" they returned once more. In larger numbers. We saw bullets grind to a halt in front of them once more. Captain Jack actually killed. The Doctor was seconds away from sacrificing the Human Race to destroy them before realising what he was doing. Again, a brilliant story (despite the slightly deus ex machina ending).

Unfortunatly my list of fabulous New Who Dalek storytelling ends there for me, and possibly me only (once again, covering myself).

In "Army of Ghosts" when the Cult of Skaro emerged from the sphere, I had seen it coming, but it was a nice little group to see nonetheless. Then, "Doomsday" and the Genesis Ark, once more we had an army of Daleks, ready to exterminate the Human Race and Cybermen alike. Unfortunatly the 'void machine' came in a little too handy. Pull two levers and the day is saved? "Meh.."

Now leaving the "Rose" era behind (or so we thought.. ) we began our trip with Martha Jones, who first encountered the Daleks in "Daleks in Manhattan." No guesses as to who they would be facing, eh? This two-parter was..alright to begin with, but when that hybrid emerged, I laughed, I really did. Were the Daleks to end here? No of course not, in the next episode, Dalek Caan used the old Emergancy Temporal Shift getaway button.

Series Four, and The Stolen Earth arrived. A Dalek Empire had kidnapped the Earth and began their invasion. They took down the UNIT flagship and began taking prisoners of the Human Race. On top of that, Davros had returned. That old dog! I liked Stolen Earth, it was a gripping story, with a surprising twist at the end, but I was starting to feel that RTD was simply trying to up himself on "Parting of the Ways."

When Journey's End finished, I was sad at Donna's departure, but was left disappointed with the Daleks'. The Dalek Supreme was struck down before he could make any real encounter with the Children of Time. Oh and...we had spinning pepper pots. But the real disappointment came when this apparently "fully fledged Dalek empire... At the height of it's power" was obliterated at the press of a few buttons.

To summarise my rant, Russell T Davies did some amazing early work in reviving the Daleks. But I have noticed that they seem increasingly easy to beat - hardly worthy of children hiding behind the sofa if you ask me!

After looking back at Moffat's fantastic work over the last few years, I have confidence that he can make Daleks threatening again - with a valid reason for it / they being alive in the first place.

The above rant is a personal opinion and should only be taken as such!

You saw the Cult of Skaro in the void ship coming?

Along with You Are Not Alone that was one of the few things that this "dont' want to look at spoilers but looks at spoilers anyway cos he's weak" fan was suprised about.
Oh, and the regeneration in Stolen Earth too...

I hope the Daleks haven't re-set themselves like the TARDIS exterior seemingly has.
Dr Who should be about looking fowards and trying new things, not revelling in its backstory.

That said, White Dalek excites me.
I'm just waiting for the Purple Dalek that fires hot Ribena from its gun!

Juat like the Borg became in Star Trek - Voyager, the Daleks have become a push over.

In both cases we have a powerful, almost unbeatable unless we chuck everything we have against them alien threat. Trouble is, and espessially with the Daleks is that you'd get a great first part story and a just as good 75% second episode, the last moments of the story would be resolved by a deus ex machina or magic lever mechanism.

Ultra powerful forces such as Daleks and Borg or whatever should only be brought out when there is a great story with a beginning, middle and more importantly a substantial ending all connected to one another. But saying that, it goes for all stories.

And presumably, the White Dalek shoots... um, warm milk. Obviously.

That could be interesting, almost certainly more interesting than anything I can imagine being done with the Weeping Angels.
