How sad was it?

That he regenerated alone , I didn't really take it in on first viewing but shed tears a moment ago when I rewatched it alongside the commentary. Out of the ones we've seen on screen , only 7 to 8 in the morgue has been companionless when the change occured.

Not seen them all but first time he's feared regeneration too as far as i know, which makes it all the sadder.

I have only watched it once so far and that was with family so I may have been holding back, but it wasn't as sad I was expecting.

I was sad to see DT go, but not as sad as I thought I would be.

But, as I said, when I watch it again by myself I might be shedding bucket loads.

It is sad on two counts for the doctor:
a) he regenerated alone
b) he was fearing the regeneration

I personally think, the writing for RTD on that was excellent and DT was fantastic yet again for the last scenes.

I also watched it with family first of all , so was holding it back too. It really got me with the commentary and RTD remarking he was alone though.

Here here. To my mind the most emotional regeneration I think of all.

I find it disappointing that the revamp has made all the regenerations the same.

Loved the Tom Baker into Peter Davison one from the classic series with "the watcher".

If I remember, in the old series it was always up to the current writers to design a Regeneration, which to be fair some were decent, but most were sloppy and looked bad. To this date I still like the one from the TV Movie as the most vivid change (bones cracking, etc) but I also like the decided one we have, the explosion of power and energy fits what's going on, and not all are the same, from the ones we have seen so far, The Doctor has an Orange aura where as The Master had a more multi-coloured aura with more flowing energy acting like water (hands) compared to the smokey effects that The Doctor has.

Thought tonight's was particularly bad as there was very little morphing between the two drs, at least there was some stripping away of facial flesh between Eccleston and Tennant.
