...Lee McAvoy from the library? I know it was probably always going to be impossible but it would have been so wonderful to see. Especially after he tried to shout after her but couldn't.

That was the Donna who had travelled though, not the gibbering trout we saw tonight.

I thought Donna was totally cheated by RTD. She was the best companion and yet she got the worst send-off (apart from Adric...)

That would have been better imo than the guy she did marry. I know we didn't see much of him, but from what we did see I didn't really like him.

As you say though, it probably would have been impossible to do.

Totally.

That was the point. She changed so much then basically reverted to a moron. It was meant to be unfair and cruel.

I thought it was highly appropriate. It was the wedding she never got in "Runaway Bride" to man who clearly wanted to be with her and was not using her. She was happy. They were all happy.

She was happy the way pigs are happy when they get a new trough of food. She deserved better.

And the rollover winning lottery ticket!

If Jessica Hynes could play a decendent of the lady the Doctor loved, there could have been an earlier ancestor of Lee around somewhere, lol. But as has been said he loved a different Donna. I just think at least with that it would have seemed a bit less like she was settling like Wilf said.

Well of course most people wanted to see her travelling again with the Doctor or being able to at least remember her adventures with The Doctor but I think Russell did the right thing this time keeping her memorise wiped. Otherwise it cheapens the story like say Rose coming back after Doomsday.

But still since we can't have that, it's obviously good that she can at least be happy with her human life

Totally agree. I was waiting and waiting for the moment she and the Doctor were reunited...especially after he called her "My best friend", which was such a moving moment.

I felt she was massively under-used in tonight's show. She should have been involved in the regeneration, too. It just wasn't right that he was alone, although I can understand that it was necessary to wipe the slate clean for MS.

The lottery win is a nice gesture, but there's something shallow about it...she deserves fulfilment and happiness, not just wads of cash.

That's exactly what makes this Donna happy though...I think.

Plus, there's no plausible way around the "she can't remember or she'll die" problem.

Doctor Who and plausibility, they go together like cheese and swarfega

I'd always hoped her return would be a story where she would start acting under the control of her subconscious mind and somehow engineer a solution to her own problem.

But hey ho, looks like it's death by wedlock for poor old Donna.

Nice idea, but it's probably too drawn out for a 2 parter and would put too much focus on her for DT's finale. Plus she'd have to just vanish off back home when he regenerated, even though she would no doubt want to stay with him and carry on where she left off.

What a facile lowest-common-denominator ending that would've been.

Amen to that.

Donna deserved a lot better.

Of course my bias will remain forever as she was my favourite companion. If a person can win me around after years of me hating them *shrugs* well yeah.

She wasn't happy though, not really, as Wilf said in EoT part 1.

I can't imagine a fate more horrible than the one Donna suffered - particularly because it was the one she feared the most. Rose, Martha, Mickey and Sarah Jane were all left happy. Jack lost Ianto (and now gained Alonso...) but was still himself and would be happy again.

Donna was left superficially happy. Sure she got married and will be rich - but if the real Donna, the one she became after meeting the Doctor, could see how her life had panned out, it'd have broken her heart.

Well she won the triple lottery rollover (I presume) so Donna did the best out of all of them. A normal life and a millionairess.

I don't think they are finished with Donna.

I found it funny when Wilf asked the Doc who that woman was and the Doc jcut straight to Donna, it was very weird.

I found that absolutely heartbreaking. I love Donna, the doctor's companions are what make the show great and she was the best. It is what was lacking from the specials for me. I was full of hope that the doctor was going to sail in and fix Donna and she was going to live happily ever after with her love from the library. Oh well, great show though!

Donna was still the same person....just not with the wealth of (impossible) experience but with the ability to become something better.

She wasnt made into a "new person" by travelling (bar the last bit)....she developed.

Who she became was always there, below the original donna surface but she was unhappy, unfulfilled, was made to feel like a loser by her mum and friends, dead end job, single at a certain age...........the lot! Her new personality wasnt "magicked" but was an enhancement of what was there.

Sure, she wouldnt be the person she developed into after travelling the stars ..............(how could she be?) .....but how do we know she wouldnt develop into something more than "a gibbering idiot or pig" with a husband who loves her, money, new found respect from her mother (who treated her pretty badly before), maybe children?

If you look at the episode where she did marry Lee McAvoy and had children.......she changed into a mature woman who lived more than a pig with a new trough i reckon.

and that was without the doctor in her life/memory

Does any1 know if it was the exact same dress as she wore in TRB??

I liked her how Donnas story ended, full circle back as a bride - and nice touch with the lottery ticket!!

I was watching for a 2nd time this morning and noticed the same thing. I think the woman maybe the Docotor's wife rather than Mother as others suspect. Although the actress is older than Dt, that means nothing in Dr.Who.

Totally agree with you. It would have ended her story perfectly.

The thing with Donna is that her story has been left open.

Donna still has her hidden Timelord half, she is very much alive with possibility of a happy married normal future.

For all we know, when Donna does finally die she may actualy regenerate. Perhaps the Doctor was simply ensuring that Donna got the benefit of a proper human life before she becomes a full on Timelady.

There are a lot of things that went unanswered in the final, but this is a good thing as it gives so much potential for future stories to be told.
