The 'ginger' comment...
BigBHM
02-01-2010
Was it a bit too much?
After regeneration, he was pleased to find all his body parts in tact etc., but was upset his hair was longer (obviously liked his hair as 10) but expressed relief at 'still not being ginger'...

I am wondering what do people think of that..

Just humour?

Offensive?

Perpetuating stereotypes?

I wonder what Catherine Tate thinks of that line as a natural redhead herself.

Humour.

10 said after his regeneration from 9 that he wanted to be ginger.

He wasn't expressing relief, he wants to be ginger.

It's a follow on from a comment Ten made some time back, so not a new issue at all. If anyone was going to make a fuss about it, then it should have been then not now.

oh for ****s sake, how many more times will this be brought up tonight. He is not expressing relief, he is annoyed that he is NOT ginger. Check out The Christmas Invasion with David Tennant, when he says he always WANTED to BE Ginger!

OK, thanks.
I did not watch the regeneration into 10.
In the context of not having seen that, its easy to see how that could be said the other way - as in relief.

@ andychurchill - I suggest you calm down mate, its all just a bit of fun you know.
You'll give yourself a coronary.

I think it is more than likely that it's an insider's joke.
Every time there is a new doctor the question about a female doctor comes up.
He grabs his hair and says I'm a girl then realises he isn't.
Maybe the ginger is representing minorities and is thus representing the idea of a black Doctor? That also gets talked about. He couldn't get away with saying at least I'm not black can he?

This could be RTD making fun of these two things that always gets people arguing about the Doctor regenerating into.

Sorry, it's the wine talking This is why I should stay away from message boards. Having been a mod on message boards in the past, I've seen many discussions start up about the same subjects, over and over, and it drives me mad! even more so when it's a subject that has been misunderstood and then repeated as fact, which then leads to more confusion and misunderstanding. I really should stay away from places where people discuss things if I want to keep my sanity

It was Moffat that wrote that scene.

Oh ok.

And I wrote that whilst the ginger explanation was posted so no need for anyone to correct me on that.

The Doctor wants to be ginger...
and yes, everything past the words "I don't want to die" was written by Moffat, not RTD. RTD didn't take part in that filming, it was Piers and Moffat that oversaw the change.

Well I agree that

a) I should have checked before I started the thread that it had not been discussed (I tend to click 'new posts' instead of sticking to particular forums, and I have not seen a single post about the ginger comment thus far).

an

b) As a non fan of DH I should probably not be starting thread about it in the first place as I am just opening myself up to attack and also at risk of upsetting ex mod FMs who have had a bit of a drink

Oh, and I question every single day why I read forums because my sanity wears thin regularly too.
