TV is an ever changing environment and 11 million plus for both episodes (as they will be when full figures are in) is something virtually no other non soap in the UK could aspire towards in 2010.”

Yes, there was a big increase in the multi channel share on Xmas day I belive!

I remember Noels House Party was getting 7 or 8 million when it was cancelled...tv was a different world back then!

The final BARB figures, allowing for HD viewing and timeshift, will probably be between 11-12m - pretty impressive for any show that isn't a soap.

pretty impressive for a soap actually!

Emmerdale would kill for that, so would Corrie!

outside chance it still might do with it's final ratings +hd. Not that EE is stupid, though.

Had DT pulled in 15 million viewers it would inevitably have been downhill all the way (as no programme is going to get that sort of figures in future) but there is a realistic prospect that good acting from the new doctor and what I expect to be superior writing from Mr Moffatt will give next Christmas a fighting chance of not looking like DW is on a downward spiral.

All the over exposure of DT this Christmas might help the show long term.”

The X Factor pulls in more than 15 million viewers.

The X Factor and BGT are lowest comment denominator tv. People watch it because of, not in spite of, it's poor quality.

They are like the tv equivalent of a Big Mac.

I don't think any tv drama show would have a hope of getting that many viewers in this age.

I'm going to use this thread even though the thread title is accidentially misleading because I don't want to clutter up the forum with threads about ratings etc.

Anyway, surprisingly the AI for End of Time Part 2 has been released today - 89! Great AI for a great episode!

The most viewed regeneration of all time, by well over a million.

What's a multi-channel universe to a man who can travel between universes, after all?

You've missed all the overseas viewers - add in another half to three-quarters of a million at least - all expat avid fans!! The Beeb can't count us, we're not configured to a nerdy black box thingy.

And what does that prove? X factor is mindless, while Dr Who at least tickles the imagination, or is pure entertainment.
