Old School Dalek
i dont know whether this has been mentioned already. but doesnt the dalek from the new trailor look like an older version, before RTD's era? its such a blink and u wil miss it moment, but from what i can make out its certainly not the same daleks we have been seeing over the past 5 years

I think you're right. But if the Moff has an in-plot explanation for a new Tardis exterior and interior, I'll bet there's a plot reason for the old-looking Dalek too.

It wasn't one of the older Daleks, but it was certainly grey. Maybe a previously unseen version from somewhere between the old style ones and the latest models?

It was a human made Dalek created under the supervision of Adolf Hitler in order to win the war. The Doctor prevents this from coming to fruition off course.

The Doctor, in the old series, encountered Daleks at various points in their long history.
In the new series, the Doctor encountered only Daleks from the last stage of their existence during the time war, or new ones created since then. The casing is just a machine, after all, so it can change quite rapidly as new technology is developed. Look how much cars have changed in 100 years, but they still mostly all have four wheels, a windscreen, steering wheel, headlights, etc. Unless Moffat rewrites the Time War (which he's entitled to do, of course), any Daleks he encounters will be ones who escaped the time war in unusual ways and can come from any point in Dalek history. I doubt this one will be "pure" classic Dalek. It will likely be a lot more solid and real looking, move better and have better effects attached. |

Look at the Youtube vid and pause it at 15 sec.
The dalek looks like it's wearing a jacket with a water bottle at the back and on the table and the floor to the left of the screen there are assorted dalek bits - the weapon ring, dome and grille bits. Now I'm confused. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eNDAQ...ger_r2-2r-1-HM |

It also has rather large lights as well like the newer ones rather than the smaller ones of the classic Daleks.

The Dalek is 2005 design, painted green as camouflage and wearing a WWII soldier's utility belt of some kind. The Dalek parts on the floor indicate they are being manufactured in some way.
Fascinating |

I get the Daleks are in a Timelock following the Time War. What I don't understand is why a post-Time War Doctor can't meet pre-Time War Daleks? Surely if he can travel through time and space (as I'm presuming the Daleks can) they could meet up any time any where? Or is there too much snow in my head? |

I would imagine that when the Doctor used the moment to destroy Time Lords and Daleks, he destroyed every single one in every single second of time.
This was a Time war..... Destroying them just at the moment that the Doctor destroyed them would achieve nothing as the ones in the past would still be fighting in different times. |

Surely it depends on the temporal extent of the time lock? If I had to make something up, I'd say that the time lock extends as far as is required to cover any potential causative act of the time war, with the effect that if you go back to just before the bubble and attempt to prevent the war from beginning then the bubble extends and traps you.
If that were the case, perhaps we could look forward to a "Don't mention the war!" Fawlty-esque episode? |

That doesn't make sense. Erasing both races from history completely would devastate the time stream and, more to the point, no-one would remember either Time Lords or Daleks, which is obviously not the case.
We do not know the extent or power of this "moment".... it is possible that it was able to wipe Gallifreyan's and Daleks alike without these ramifications. He would have to destroy all of them, or else he wouldn't be surprised everytime he sees a Dalek, he would just think that they were pre-time war. |

Skaro and Galifrey dont exist anymore because the doctor locked them up for the sake of the rest of the Whoniverse Therefore you can not meet someone from somewhere that never existed. Only timelords and daleks who werent inside the time war at the time now exist. |
