Even with a hubbie and a lottery win she's still the Donna from before the Doctor had met her.

Donna was treated perfectly.


Her memory is gone, if she remembers it completely she will die, I'm glad they chose not to just have her magically remember everything and have a happy ending.

You were meant to feel sad at how Donna was left with no memory of it. It was all part of the tragedy of it, she was his best friend and she doesn't even recognise or remember him.

Whilst she was having a go at the Bridesmaid she was also a lot less strident...I think the bloke in her life is helping.

To be honest I think it would have been more of a cop out if they'd resolved her Donna/Doctor issues and thought this was a lot subtler and more realistic.

On the other hand , solving Jacks recent Children of Earth issues by giving him a love interest was singularly unsubtle and didn't feel right. Just killed your own grandchild ?....you just need a new partner !!!

No. For a change RTD didn't muck up the endings of past series just for the sake of a happy ever after - if only he'd done the same and left Rose in the parallel world first time round. Who can honestly say they still find Doomsday as heart-wrenching now they know that a couple months later everything changes?

Well it s bitter sweet, and I think that is acknowledged in the story, in the cafe scene. But the Doctor has done his best to make her as happy as she can be. It's tragic in a way that she doesn't remember how special she is, but there is beauty in that too.

I think it was just the best that the Doctor could do under the circumstances.

No, I liked the way the story ended for Donna. Not all stories in life have a happy ending and for Donna, I think what she got was happy as she would have had if she hadn't met the Doctor. I appreciate that RTD did not do a reversal, which for me would have slightly tarnished the end of Journey's End in the same way that Doomsday doesn't have the same impact now.

Yeah, I agree with this, I was upset at it cause of this.

Good point about Jack. I think it should have been the doctor telling alonso to approach Jack, but then there isnt really that goodbye from 10 to jack!

Treating her better, doesn't necessarily mean to give her back her memories and givng her a happy ending. It just felt to me that Donna was given the short thrift at the end of the episode concerning her relationship with the Doctor. Yeah we had the 'best friend' comment earlier in the episode which was great, but then we could have at least had at the end Donna going 'Oi, where's Mum and Gramps gone?' and then when noticing where they have got to saying 'Who's that man?' While the Doctor gives her a sad look as he turns away from her to stop her from remembering. Just something simple like that. Both Martha and Rose got to see him one last time, but for Donna no. Yeah, if she remembers she will die...but as shown in Journey's End he can be there without her actually having to remember. At the end of the day, the last 5, 10 minutes of the episode were incredibly self-indulgent for each of the characters, except really Donna. You would have thought that RTD would have wanted to tug at the heartstrings a bit more where she was concerned, some more highlighting of the tragedy of her predicament. More sadness from the Doctor since his best friend will never ever remember him, especially now that he is going to die. This was really my only gripe with the episode.

Jack might have had ages to get over Ianto though, love of his life or not, it's clear someone who lives as long as Jack will have several!

I think her inclusion was pointless and if anything detracted from the ending from last season which whilst heartbreaking, was perfectly done and seemed final.

To bring her back in the show but not interact with the doctor, turn the "Can't ever remember" into "Actually she can because there is a safety device to reverse it again" just tainted her otherwise brilliant ending.

I feel if she had to be in the final 2 parter (which to end DTs reign, she did) they could have at least had her interact with the doctor, even if it was within the 5 minutes between memories starting and the safety device kicking in, would be nothing to her ultimately but at least changing her final storyline would have at least resulted in a great scene between the Doctor and DoctorDonna one last time.

It would have been cheaper for me if she'd just not been there. RTD mentioned on Confidential they nearly just had Donna and Syliva "off in Blackpool" or some such nonsense, before they realised it would be a cheat to not have her there in the background and to get some version of a happy ending.

I thought she was treated best, it didn't ruin her earlier send off and we know she's going to be happy. The Doctor didn't do anything magical to change her character it was just the potential she already had in her, now she's settled down and doesn't have to scrimp and save she could become even better than before, it wouldn't be in character for the doctor to make sure she saw him or to talk to her and risk killing her.
Sure it's sad that she'll never remember but that the whole point in her exit and who knows what will happen years down the line, especially now the master knows of her and of the metacrisis

They didn't end it badly, I thought the church scene was wonderful.

I would have liked her to have more of role in defeating the Master, rather than just passing out in an alley. If she'd helped the Doctor and then her memory reset that would have been fine with me.

I agree with the rest who've said Donna was actually handled rather well in this special.

He'd have had a harder time in reaching a happy resolution for her if he'd readdressed the memory wipe. If she didn't burn up with remembering her adventures, it would have meant for an even crueller ending really. She had such a passion invested in her travels with the Doctor that with her memory restored, she wouldn't likely just resign herself to domestic humdrum with the new husband.

I did think RTD was scraping close to bringing Donna back as she was with her brief flashes of memories, and while the fail-safe device was a bit clumsy, it served a purpose. I think her ending in this special was great. She might not be out travelling the stars, but she seems perfectly happy and a lottery win will no doubt help her enjoy her new life further. We've got Wilf to remember the legacy for her, and even Sylvia seems warmed up enough to carry that too, which is nice.

They were never going to continue Donna as a companion after this, so returning her memories was only going to make for an even sadder ending... I think anyway.
