What companions are appearing again
Deserana 12

I don't follow Doctor Who as much as some fans on this board do so i was just wondering are any companions returning for when Matt Smith takes over i would personally like to see how Donna reacts because she has only see him half regenerate (in Journey's End).

I also think Jessica Hynes/Stevenston should return again.

RTD has said that while there is nothing stopping anyone returning, Steven Moffat will likely want to create his own characters and it is unlikely any RTD companion will appear anain.

It certainly seems unlikely any would appear in the upcoming series.

Who knows what 2011 will bring though.

I really liked Jessica Hynes' character/s in the end. The first time I watched HN/TFoB I was obviously rooting for Martha and so didn't really like her... but I've grown to find her very watchable and loved seeing the descendent in EoT2.

Having said that, I favour a clean break for MS.

Having said THAT, Jess Hynes only appeared in three episodes, and the descendent in EoT2 hasn't really interacted with the Doctor much, so maybe there's scope there.

Sarah Jane (as an ongoing companion) might reappear again along with Captain Jack. Can't really see any reason for Rose or Donna to come back ever - Martha could I suppose do Torchwood if it ever came back but that probably wouldn't involve the Doctor?

But you never know!

I think you'll see a non-companion again. I'm certain Alonso Frame in the finale is an indicator that RTD would like to if possible, cast Russell Tovey as a new member of Torchwood.

well assuming he can find the time to do it what with being one of the lead actors on Being Human !!

but it would be cool to see RT in Torchwood

No, RTD created him but asked SM to introduce him in his episodes.

Sarah Jane, Luke, and K9, I hope.

The Doctor was in the Sarah Jane programme recently.

For me just Sarah Jane without Luke. He's ok for her own show, but prefer him to stay out of Who. Also never been a big K9 fan.

OK, just Sarah Jane then

Agree, as much as I like the old companions and see them again (YMMV), their character continuity wasn't always the greatest in Moff's episodes and used those episode to introduce his own 'companions' - River, Sally, Reinette. I think he'd much prefer to create and write for his own, so I doubt we'd see Donna, Wilf, Martha etc again in Who.

We know River Song is returning..his...strange past and future companion. Made ever more complicated with DT's regeneration as she seemed to recognise him then.

I'd like Sally Sparrow to make an appearance. A cameo in the Weeping Angels episode? Perhaps stretched to the role Donna played in End of TIme.

I wouldn't rule out the return of an old school companion retn totally, but it may be done with a different spin as in School reunion. I re-worked version of , say Big Finiish's THE GATHERING could work, showing the negative impact of travelling with the Doctor following their adventures, or visiting a companion who has turned out to be a meglomaniac or something or whose actions have had an impact in the future/current adventure.

I remember a DWM "brief Enounter" story about some companions getting together following an advert asking if anyone knew what TARDIS meant to get in touch. I think that would make an ideal "Dr Lite" episode if that concept was ever revisited, but I'd assume that Smith may be contracted to 14 eps a year?

Plus further to a post above, why would being in Being Human prevent Tovey doing Torchwood? BH is only 8 eps long and already filmed....

The thing is, having her appear again, especially in a Weeping Angels episode, makes her seem a lot more important than she really is. Remember how odd the Doctor thought it was that he kept encountering Donna?

There's the small problem there that she's currently bookies favourite to win the Best Actress Oscar in February. If that happens, can't see Dr Who being able to afford her anymore.

I think Matt Smith seing as he is quite young would work well with Sally Sparrow
