have connected to router thro a belkin game adapter with settings showing in network tab on main menu

have latest software and loader

have followed video on youtube showing how to connect to iplayer by going to bbc1 and pressing red button but on the menu there is no iplayer option.

what could be the problem?

Because you need to key in 5483 after you have hit the red button (as if you are trying to get to a given page number) and then hit "OK"...

The iPlayer "option" will not be automatically on screen until the service comes out of beta...

problem i was having was the youtube video gave the impression that there was already an entry on the bbc1 red button menu

i knew about the code but didn't realise when to enter it.
