After the conversation in the Cafe , Wilfred could have just smacked on the glass once or twice and shouted for The Doctor. Yes I know 10 would've still had to go in the other booth to release him and get flooded with energy but maybe that would've stuck two fingers up at the prophecy. We could've then had a nervy last 20minutes to the story with 10 walking on eggshells until the Grim Reaper caught up with him in a Final Destination style course correction moment

Or after Wilf had knocked for the fourth time, the Doctor could have said to him, 'Knock a fifth time, love!"

Or could've conserved his senior citizen energy by giving the Doctor a mobile phone like Martha did. Then asking 10 to ring him once he'd crashed to the floor of the Naismith mansion.

"Wilf , it's The Doctor , you asked me to ring at this time"
(On the coffee table in the Nobles living room)
Tap....Tap......Tap.......Tap......
"Oh S**t" says The Tenth Doctor.
"See you then Doctor , Countdowns about to start and Minnies just made a brew" (Hangs Up)
Some random technician who had a change of heart could then've got themselves in the booth for 10 to swap places with

Or Wilf, being unable to work new-fangled technology like mobile phones, could have fiddled around with it a bit before deciding to just go the the Naismiths' and knock on the front door.
