Also get:

• Caves of Androzani
• Robots of Death

Actually, don't get Caves of Androzani. Watch it legally and for free on youtube. And definitely don't watch the Twin Dilemma immediately afterwards — it's not just everything that can be wrong with Doctor Who, it's everything that can be wrong with television.”

Ok, thanks. I'm going to start making a list. I feel bad for hijacking the thread, but are there any more episode recommendations before the OP comes back and shouts at me?

Thanks, I'll put that on the list. Sorry I didn't see your post before, i'm a bit blind

I think would it would be important to watch the first 11 Episodes with William Hartnell.

For me it sets the scene for the whole thing. The music used in The Dead Planet still chills me today - and we all know who he met for the first time then.

Also the Time Meddler is another good too. Inferno is one I can remember. The Deadly Assasin should not be missed either.

Thanks, I've heard/read that only some of his episodes are extant but I'll try to get as many as I can.

Thanks for that. I was watching in the eighties, and while a bunch of ignorant know nothings on places like Gallifrey Base may mock, believe it or not, most of us rather enjoyed Doctor Who at the time; there certainly wasn't any 'hysteria' over the 'rubbishness' of some of the Doctors, since they were generally pretty well liked and respected. The sacking of Colin Baker met with a particularly outraged response. It was the eighties. It was a different decade, with different standards. Please try to remember that and not judge it by the second hand standards of today.

Probobly explains why I'm a programmer and not an English teacher.

Robots of Death was the first DW I watched. Excellent story

In fact, a lot of Hartnell's episodes still exist and he's pretty well represented on DVD. it's Troughton whose episodes are mostly missing, with only half a dozen stories still complete. I'll second the recommendation of The Time Meddler, and also throw in The Aztecs, The Mind Robber and The War Games from the black & white era, plus just about anything with Tom Baker in it. Particularly The Talons of Weng Chiang, Pyramids of Mars and City of Death.

Ok, sorry. You're right, I can't judge without having watched it at the time.

Thank you, they've gone on the list!
