With the backing of Arqiva and BBC and a mixture of pay and free TV archive content could be good (if the pay material is a reasonable price)!

Got my invite by email this morning.

Tells you to follow a link to confirm interest, then says you will be issued with a beta access code shortly.

Invite? I thought this seesaw thing was going be set top box based. So it is going to be another BBC Iplayer type thing that will be viewed on a computer?

Lot of good that will be, how many people want to watch something on a computer screen for any length of time? It is fine if your computer is linked up to your main T.V, but most people have not got that set up.

I expect it will be over priced and if the picture quality is as bad as the BBC Iplayer then it will not be worth paying for.

The quality of the BBC Iplayer over IP seems to be improving step by step and streaming on the wii is now quite good!
Saving to a PC hard drive seems to provide better quality!

I suspect other platforms will follow the PC on See Saw!
The legal rivals seem to be Amazon, Tesco film/TV programmes downloads on the PC, Apple TV with it's hardware unit for £223!
http://store.apple.com/uk/browse/hom...A-KWG-UK_TV-UK, Fetch TV box for about the same price
and soon Hulu on the PC (promised in 2010 in the UK)!
A Postman Pat download on Tesco is £1.77, but the rest of the choice is limited and hopefully the range on See saw will be better.

See Saw are still in a testing phase, still waiting for my invite and notice they say about invites on twitter!
we will be ramping right up by the end of the month.

As I understand it-
Canvas will be a standard for IPTV enabled STBs and TVs, any box meeting the standard will work with BBC iplayer, ITV player, Ch4od and a Five player!
Therefore a subscription free IPTV equivelent of Freeview or Freest and can be built into freeview and freest STBs and TVs which Canvas hopes many manufactures will take up.

However the Canvas standard will also allow pay IPTV services and will initally include BT Vision and TalkTalk TV if customers want to add them to their Canvas standard STB or TV and have a subsciption to the ISP.

So far Arqiva/Seesaw have not signed up to the Canvas project, but they might later, which will save them having to to design their own boxes (along with maybe Lovefilms, Sky player, VM national, Fetch TV and Hulu!!!). So far Sky are very against Canvas but this might change!

If people on here is getting confused then think what it will be like for Joe Public. competition is good, but not when it confuses the hell out of people.

Most people can understand that Freeview is free digital T.V via your aerial, Sky is pay T.v via Satellite, people are also getting used to Freesat.

But they seem to get confused with IPTV, now there is so many names going around, Fetch T.V, BT Vision, Project canvas, Seesaw, Blinkbox and others. With so many different ones around and only BT Vision that is working I think IPTV have a long way to go. You only have to look at the lack of customers BTVision have got to show how well IPTV is not doing.

Sure BBC Iplayer is doing ok, but then it is free and is supported by the licence fee, I doubt it would still be going if it did not rely on licnece money.

If IPTV is suppose to be the future, then let get some sort of standard.

Superficially it looks like iplayer with Channel Four & Five added. What happened to ITV?

So far simular to MSN TV player with simular archive shows paid for by ads, but no full screen facility, will be interesting to see if they get more shows than MSN and a pay to download and keep facility soon!
Streaming quality better than Sky player with no buffering problems so far

Full screen's working here for me. There's a button somewhere on the player which sets it to full screen mode. Can't remember what it looks like, and I'm in work at the moment, so can't get access!

Noticed an update with some ITV programmes going on Seesaw, can't be long before ITV joins and SeeSaw signs to Canvas!

SeeSaw has announced further content deals for its video on-demand platform, including agreements with Channel 4, Five and various independent production firms.

Based on technology developed for collapsed joint venture Project Kangaroo, the Arqiva-owned service provider today confirmed deals for around 3,000 hours of programming.

The platform, which entered closed beta on Tuesday, will host Channel 4's 4OD and Five's Five On Demand when it fully launches around March.

A deal is already in place with BBC Worldwide for a range of BBC programming, leaving just ITV remaining from the terrestrial networks.

However, SeeSaw has reached a separate agreement with UK independent distributor Digital Rights Group, which will result in flagship ITV1 dramas, such as Doc Martin and Kingdom, being available at launch.

The firm has also agreed the "first of many" US content deals with RHI Entertainment for 50 made-for-TV movies. All announced content will be available for free on the site, but supported by pre and mid-roll advertising.

SeeSaw chief executive Pierre-Jean Sebert described the programming deals as a "major step forward" for the platform ahead of its commercial launch.

"These strategic partnerships, along with the recent BBC Worldwide deal, demonstrate SeeSaw's ambition to offer the richest and most diverse range of programming of any online TV service in the UK. And there's more to come," he said.

A dedicated sports section will be also created on SeeSaw to host a range of content and programming. For the section, SeeSaw today confirmed a deal with Perform - which sprung to notoriety last year after streaming an England international football game exclusively online - for a raft of football programming around the 2010 World Cup in June.

"Sport will play a crucial role in broadening the appeal of SeeSaw to British viewers," said Sebert, who was previously managing director of British Eurosport.

"The deal with Perform is the first of many and will offer topical, engaging and inspiring programmes for sport lovers across the country."

SeeSaw platform controller John Keeling added: "The breadth and depth of the content announced today instantly establishes SeeSaw's position as a very significant player in the online TV marketplace.

"As a free, homegrown television platform, scheduled for British audiences and advertisers, we look forward to raising the curtain on SeeSaw in the coming weeks."

Five chairman and chief executive Dawn Airey recognised SeeSaw as the "newest addition to the television playground".

She also praised the platform as "another safe and legal way for people to watch their favourite shows whenever, wherever and however they want to".

SeeSaw has also agreed separate deals with independent production firms Shed Media and TalkbackThames for a variety of programming.

TalkbackThames commercial director Rupert Brankin-Frisby said: "We are delighted to participate in the SeeSaw launch. Making our content available on online platforms is a key part of our distribution strategy and will benefit content owners and viewers alike."

Can I just ask, and I'm not saying this to be difficult, but what exactly is the point of SeeSaw?

Why not just use iPlayer, 4OD and Demand Five? The only thing I've spotted so far is the fact they seem to (mostly) have older the older programmes.

And according to the BBC News today it's not because it'll eventually do movies either, as SeeSaw have said they'll only broadcast 90minute TV movies and nothing that's been in the cinema.

Not impressed.

Just went to see a BBC programme, it's 16:9 mashed into 4:3. Everything is stretched upwards.
