.........that outside the derelict dance hall were "Vote Saxon" Posters...

This is interesting because Series 1 of Torchwood was filmed from May 2006 until November 2006.

But wasn't the whole Harold Saxon thing throughout the 2007 series of Dr Who!?

Yes it's been bought up many times...just because they didnt do the saxon thing until after the fiming of torchwood, doesn't mean they were'nt alreadly planning it.

Whlst I can't claim this is cannon, surely before running for Prime Minister you have to first actually be an MP.

So the 2006 Vote Saxon campaign could have been to make him MP for Cardiff and the 2007 campaign to make him PM.

They just used the same posters because it saved money, it worked the first time and because with the brainwashing telephones it didn't matter what posters they used anyway

Well the last 1/4 of TW S1 is set in 2008, the same year as DW S3 so it’s the same campaign just a few months before the election. In a production view - no doubt the Saxon concept had been thought of well before TW stated filming.

Saxon was defense minister by the time of the Runaway Bride - he gave the orders to shoot down the Racnoss "star."

So everything was planned out well in advance. And if they ended up doing something else in Series 3, no harm done. Just another unresolved puzzle.

Not strictly speaking. After the election, the Queen picks a member of the Houses of Parliament that she believes can command the support of a majority of the houses and asks him or her to form a government. Which in our overwhelmingly two-party system nowadays in practice means the leader in the Commons of the party that won the most seats.

So, constitutionally, you can become PM immediately after your first election. And you probably can in practice if you are controlling everyone using a psychic network.

This wasn't the first reference to "Vote Saxon" in Who Chronologically though was it?

I'm pretty sure Peter Kay held up a paper that said something about a Mr Saxon in his much derided episode, it might just be that no-one wants to re-watch that one to confirm it!

It was mentioned in love & Monsters I think DWC covered all the nods to Saxon so to save us from being tortured again
