That's brilliant! My 2 yr old ginger, Boris, went missing over the New Year because the catflap had inadvertantly been left unlocked one night - it was totally out of character for him, and given the cold weather (and the inevitable fireworks on NYE

) we were beside ourselves with worry. To say it put a damper on the festivities is putting it mildly. However, we did all the things mentioned on this thread, including putting flyers through letter boxes, in local shops etc, and he turned up 3 days later - in the kitchen on his bed when I went downstairs on Saturday morning! None the worse for wear, not especially hungry or thirsty (although he could have eaten & drunk on his return, as we don't know exactly when that was), and quite clean so obviously hadn't been outside somewhere grubby! Our thinking was that he'd got shut in the house of somebody who was away over the new year period.
None of our other cats has ever been AWOL for even one night (apart from one who met his fate on the road , very sad but I won't go there...), so we were unused to dealing with the situation as well as finding it hard to cling on to hope, however ALL our friends who have cats have reported theirs having gone astray like this on at least one occasion, and ALL have turned up safely after a few days or so. One of my neighbours had a cat who turned up 14 months later!! The local cats protection league told us that the vast majority of cats who go missing are closer to home than their owners think, they tend to get shut in somewhere and do eventually get home none the worse for wear. So don't give up hope.
A final thought, councils have a number you can ring to see if your cat has been 'picked up' from the road, as there are byelaws which state they must be collected and not just left. Because of this, cats who have had accidents are usually found more quickly than ones that have just strayed or got shut in somewhere. Not a nice thought I know, but it's better than not knowing...
I do hope IP turns up, plese keep us posted! xx
