"I really like X"
"Why?! X is crap! How could you like X? You're such a loser"
"We can't help who we like"......

"Why do people buy X's records"
"Erm....maybe because people, other than yourself have a different opinion, and LIKE X's records?"

"I hate when X sings like that. X is such a copycat and wannabe Y. X is clearly just copying everything that Y does.
"That's just how X sings - X can't help it!"

"X is so ugly. X is so fat. X needs to stop singing because of these reasons"

"X co-wrote a song, therefore X only contributed a few words to it"

just as people have a right to like what they like, people also have the right to criticize what they don't like (for the right reasons of course)

its a complete contradiction but that's what makes it so interesting.

at the end of the day if I hate.. say... Leona Lewis then people are gonna know about it.

I agree, political correctness gone mad! I mean not everyone likes Gaga or RnB and before in the industry you had people willing to be outspoken. Nowadays we get freaking media trained puppies saying "ooh I love everyone!"

Probably the worst example of musical arrogance I've ever read :

I wouldn't buy it. It's a nought out of ten from me. Simon Cowell wouldn't like it. They wouldn't get through to boot camp on The X Factor - they're just shouting.

I just googled that quotation - wow, I had no idea he said that! Did he actually say that, or was it made up?

Yeah he told it to The Sun during the week of the xmas no.1 battle. I remember reading it in complete disbelief of the sheer irony of it. One of those head-in-hand-laughing-out-loud moments!

I see your examples and I raise you a...... CD being snapped in half!

Everyone I know, their aunts, uncles, brothers, sisters, cousins, friends and friends dogs hate my favourite band, despite knowing only one thing about them. That they had a very massive hit song 12 years ago when they were children.

Never mind the fact they are talented musicians, who have grown up (yes, I know, shocking isn't it)and written and recorded hundreds of songs and tour constantly for about 6 months every year.

No, it has been deemed by the masses that they are "crap" and therefore if you see one of their CD's lying around, don't listen to it! Heaven forbid, no you must snap it in half, that person who has spent money on it and enjoys listening to it can jog on, you know better!

I take so much stick because I love Hanson!!

During the christmas number one campaign - "people who buy the x factor single are sheep", "people who buy the climb have inferior music taste", "music produced by x factor contestants is not 'real music'". Surely people who watch the x factor are allowed to have their own opinions in music?

Why it is arrogant to say one particular artist is superior to another?

Is it arrogant to say that Citizen Kane is a superior movie to Herbie Goes Bananas or that the works of Charles Dickens is superior to that of Jeffrey Archer?

Of course they are but if those people think that the X Factor is the be all and end all of music then I suggest the suffer from musical ignorance rather than arrogance.
