Freesat newbie recording failed
I set up my Humax Freesat PVR at the weekend. I've been finding my way around and have successfully reserved and recorded a couple of programmes.
However, yesterday I set it to record the series of Great British Railway Journeys, broadcast daily from today (Mon 4th Jan) at 18:30 on BBC HD. The box was in standby at the programme start time and when I checked it 45 minutes later, GBRJ had been replaced in the schedule with tomorrow's broadcast but the Media screen was empty! I've noticed that there is a checkbox next to each entry in the Schedule. Is it necessary to tick a programme to ensure recording? If so, this isn't mentioned in the manual. |

It didn't create a separate folder: it was just empty.
![]() BUT, I've just been searching AVForums and this could be a likely reason: I set the recording yesterday but we always turn our stuff off at the wall socket overnight. I've just read that if you return a box to standby after the power has been completely off then its internal clock is stopped. You have to boot it up to let it get its bearings again and then put it back in standby. This is possibly what happened. I'll boot it back up and then out again before tomorrow's programme and see if it works. ![]() (Also there's never a repeat when you need one!) |

also you could always use the iplayer to catch the missed programme, assuming you can get the box connected to your broadband router.

Not Recording
I too am new to Foxsat having givem up Sky on the 31st Dec.
I too set my box to record GBRJ, but I did it today. I also set it to record Eggheads. Neither program appears to have been recorded but the next ones are in the schedule. The same thing happened with my wife's Songs of Praise on Sunday. It doesn't appear to have recorded but next weeks is in the schedule. I had recorded 3 other programs, Coronation Street, The Lakes and How do they do it. These have all been watched and deleted. Hopefully there is no way the box deletes all of a days recordings when one is deleted. |

And do you switch your box off at the mains overnight? You may have the same problem as I did. |

As the box only draws less than 1 amp in standby it's best to leave in this state. )

I have checked my HDR this morning after seeing this post and can report that my recording of GBRJ is OK so its not a broadcaster mess up.
Turning power to the box off besides, if you are new to the HDR then I dont know if you are aware about setting up a schedule recording with a short lead in time for example setting up a recording 15 minutes or less before the actual programme start time. The rare occasions I have done this they have generally failed. |

I switched the box on this morning and was careful to boot it up as well. Then I returned it to standby, where it's been all day.
Lo and behold, it bursts into life around 18:30 and GBRJ is successfully recorded and placed in its own series folder. Sorted!

I like a happy ending!
Pity a promising programme wasn't as good as it should be - eg the overhead shots of trains weren't the ones on the lines he was travelling on - and he mentioned he was going to Bury, but he got nowhere near the place (you can only access Bury from the south by tram - not train!!). Anyway, half the fun of the Humax is working your way through all the things it can do, all the things it can do that you don't think it can do, and all the things you want it to do but it can't. Have fun!! |
