Not totally sure what you mean by "old fashioned" record player...surely you dont mean windup?

We had a record player too....I remember We Dont Talk Anymore (Cliff Richard), Do Ya Think I'm Sexy (Rod Stewart), Slim Whitman, Cat Stevens, Mowtown...to name but a few.

I distinctly remember running very fast around the dining room table at age 9 or 10 to Rod Stewart....my way of enjoying the music back then I guess....still cant dance but stopped running to music hehe

Yep, MJ was a part of my upbringing too, remember buying BAD on vinyl, though it wasnt called Vinyl back then, just an LP from Woolworths...happy simpler days...now its all bit rates and wattage and mp3 and converting an burning and ripping and gives me a headache.

Thats it, I'm going to buy a record deck!

Then I'm going to don my slippers turn into a grumpy old man and listen to records, not this "new fangled" nonsense

He showed that not all 60s music was great.

He even managed to keep the Beatles Penny Lane/Strawberry Fields off the top of the charts, which was the first time they never made No 1 after their first single.

I saw Englebert about 30 years ago. He was in a resuraunt that we were in and he was with Larry Grayson. I saw them on my way back from the loo and went and told my mum and grandparents. I recognised Larry because of the generation game but not Eng'. My folks thought I was mistaken but had egg on their face when the waitress told them that they were just in. Needless to say, I had the last laugh.

That's my favourite...it's actually called 'The Last Waltz'.

'Save The Last Dance For Me' was a song by The Drifters.

....zips anorak up a little higher.

OMG, what a fab thread. I absolutely adore EH. When I was young, my parents had the 'A Man Without Love' LP.

Spent a good bit of time last week on iTunes with some of EH's best. Had a great time!

Yes he was class. the "A Man Without Love" LP has some great tracks.

Since we seem to be remembering some old stuff here, I thought I would share this one, Paper Doll by The Mills Brothers: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n2m8VZBfRYo

remember him, dont like him at all.... his music was for 'mums' and was far too square for the fab 60's....

ill give him some credit though...he could sing! id prefer him to westlife and the plethera of ballad singing boybands we have today. at least engelbert had his own style and his track had some variety.

He still tours. He was on tour last year. I wanted to go see him at Croydon but I had other commitments.

My mum used to like Englebert Humperdink ... apparently he asked her cousin out once (obviosly years ago) .. she turned him down by the way .. lol

I think he has a nice voice ... his songs are cheesy but I quite like them .. some of them are classics of the old Kareoke and remind me of holidays at Berwick Caravan Park and all the club singers trying to do an "Englebert"

I've just googled him .. didn't know he sang a song called Lesbian Seagull .. lol
