There was a thread with pages about this, but it doesn't seem to be the same problem.

To remove all possible variables, I pulled my (working!) internet connection (from my broadband modem) out of my PC and plugged it into the Foxsat HDR.

HDR happily reported sensible IP settings.

But all I can get from iPlayer is "connecting...".

Any suggestions? Or even a helpful link?

Cheers,
David.

Try rebooting your modem - if it was still switched on from being connected to your PC, the settings will be incorrect for the HDR.

Make sure you are set to DHCP in the Configure IP menu, Manual doesn't seem to work properly.

This is also the message you get when you have a connection address that is not recognised as being in the UK. Are you using some internet connection that isn't from one of the usual service providers (via a VPN, for example)?

I thought that until I noticed with DHCP set, the box had picked up the same setting for the Router Address as the Subnet Mask, 255,255,255,0, although this isn't the normal number for my router.

Went back to manual settings and entered 255.255.255.0 for my router address and iPlayer now works

I've tried switching both the modem and the HDR off completely, and booting one first, the other first, and both at once - no combination works.

I'm on Plusnet (BT!) - I can't believe it's recognised as being outside the UK. The reports I've seen say that folks outside the UK get the menu, but can't play the content - I'm not even getting that far! Press Red, 5483, Connecting... that's it!

I'll note down the automatic settings I'm getting. Can't believe something so simple would be such a pain. It's not like I'm even trying to send it through a router (though obviously I'll have to - one step at a time!).

Cheers,
David.

There is a bug that is corrupting the display of the default gateway (router address). Mine also displays 255.255.255.0 as a default gateway but works OK, so internally, the default gateway must be correct.

Mine displayed the same symptoms when I entered the network settings manually but has been OK using DHCP despite the rogue router address display.

Can you ping the Humax from a PC on your network?

Suggest you try posting here

Someone from Plusnet support might be able to help.

Dan.

Works fine for me on Plusnet. But had a few niggles getting it to connect because of the router.

Is it a Thompson router ? If so, I had to tell the router the Humax MAC address was a Set-Top Box and also create a entry in the firewall (to open IP player ports) and then assign it to the Humax.

After that using DCHP it will assign it an IP address and DNS
and should connect you

Hope this helps

Modems tend to remember MAC addresses.

Try leaving the modem off for half hour then trying again. It may not like that you've gone straight from your PC to the HDR.

If that is the case, wouldn't that mean that it "won't like it" when I try to put it back into my PC?

Sounds like it'll be easier to get it working through the router.

Cheers,
David.

I had the "connecting error". I found that I needed to redo my RJ45 connections. I also did a software update.
