Err... They're currently on tour, and played 40 odd shows in Europe and the USA between June and October last year (which all sold out), with another 30ish scheduled for the summer.
I think the tour is in the top 10 ever in terms of gross revenue.

U2's album did very well worldwide though, 3.5 million worldwide, sales 7th best of the year.
They didnt do that well(for them) in the UK though, just 368K sales for the album. 34th best selling of the year in the UK.

green day and bryan adams (not to mention BNL, in north america at any rate) could also fill a decent sized stadium

Didn't Green Day also release a multi-million selling album in 2009 and then embark on a huge world tour that lasted until November or so?

Not really "vanished" at all.

Travis, though, do carry on playing gigs all over the place but no-one seems to take any notice any more. I was in Las Vegas in April 2009 and they were playing there!

Is that the same Green Day who had a Number One album in 16 countries less than 9 months ago, who've vanished suddenly.
Or another one?

Going back a while I know but in the 80's Terence Trent D'Arby would have fitted perfectly into this thread.
