Foxsat HDR LNB out
victorslot

I have scanned through old posts here and the operators manual but cannot find a definitive answer to what is available on the LNB out connector.

I already have a TV with a Freesat tuner and am looking at the Foxsat HDR to replace Sky HD.

What I would like to know is will the LNB out feed my TV Freesat tuner independently at all times or is the output limited to what the Foxsat tuners are doing?

If the Foxsat is recording two programs will the LNB out allow the TV Freesat tuner to operate. I suspect it will not but would like to know before purchase so I have the correct cables in place.

All answers/advice wil be appreciated.

I'm no expert but I think the LNB out allows a single LNB to be connected so that you can record 2 channels at once and watch another, providing they are on the same transponder.

Without it you can only record one channel and watch another one on the same transponder.

I used the LNB out to feed my Technomate which in turn is used to record ITV HD ( not very often) because you can not export ITV HD files to an external drive using the HDR.

The HDR has the priority in my set up and when it wakes to do a recording it cuts the signal to the LNB out.

I can not say if it always cuts the signal wether using both the tuners or not but it’s a un-reliable set up for general viewing on a sat TV down line from the HDR.

The only 100% reliable way is for a third connection from LNB to TV.

Have my old FTA (SD) box connected to the LNB out. From what I can fathom it is the same as recording 2 channels and watching a third. It is only of any use if what you want is on the same transponder and polarisation that the HDR tuner 1 is using. However if the HDR is in standby without power save then the second device on LNB out will take control of the LNB.
As Skip Tracer states, its not much use!

It won't cut the signal out it will restrict the channels output to those in the same frequency band and polarisation as the tuner 1 has switched it's lnb to. For the two low band polarities that's roughly 45% of the available channels on the epg. That's how a hdr with a single cable and the tuner loop can still record 2 channels and even let you watch some third channels while recording two.

For example if you tune tuner 1 to any of the following then ITV HD should be usable on your Technomate

Thanks for that list Graham, I have seen this before but have found it to be a bit confusing when trying to schedule series links and the like.

Generally I use my Sony Freeview recorder for SD stuff which has good up scaling and use the HDR for HD only.

If ITV HD stuff is on early in the evening then I use the HDR but if its late at night when the HDR is given time off for good behaviour, then I use the Technomate.

I hope one day ITV will give us the copy once that the BBC use then that will be one more less box under the TV.

Thanks for the responses, much as I hoped otherwise I am not surprised.

Just hope the BBC will take the Guinness Premiership off Sky soon but I doubt they have the money.
