It's probably just that very few people have tried more than one of the options, so they don't feel able to answer. The vast majority of people on here seem to use a Foxsat HDR, but I've seen a few posts by people who've used other stuff.

Most people have the Foxsat as it has been out for a year now, only recently has there been other options, the Goodmans fell down almost straight away with a firmware error which I presume has been fixed, you can check out a few reviews Here and Here

Sorry, followed your link but can't find any reviews of the Goodman's HD PVR. Where is it?

Thanks. But there are no users reviews there. Doesn't anyone own one of these units? I would be interested in the 500GB version of course.

Was about to get the Foxsat HDR Freesat+ box to replace our ended subscription Sky+ until I realised that it does not have Dave or some of the other more often used channels that you get on Freeview.

All the reviews I have read had almost convinced me to get the Humax Foxsat but I do like my motoring and comedies.

There are some great step by step reviews on Youtube btw.

Unless you are desperate to get a PVR now, I would wait until later in the year when TIVO pvrs will become available in the UK. The user interface and functionality of TIVOs are dramatically better than those on other units.

What would be the point?, are TiVo supposed to be releasing a Freesat HDR? - I suspect NOT. The only mention of TiVo has been that they are supposedly having something to do with VM's next version of the V+ - not that they are relaunching in the UK.

But don't you have to pay a subscription to use one? At least you used to have when Tivo was available in this country previously.

My thoughts exactly, by all reports TiVo has a great service but it's never been available without subs AFAIK.

Depends waht you mean by features. The epg is transmitted as a data stream from Eurobird 1 so epg load times should be very much the same for all freesat boxes.

I only have a hdr and hd so can only speak definetely about the hdr.

AFAIK It's the only box that lets you record two and watch a third and also the only one that works pretty well using only one lnb (It's a no brainer for anyone who can't get a 2nd cable)

It has no timer for non-freesat and can't mix Freesat and Non Freesat in the epg. From other posts some of the others can.

You have to go through the menus to to switch to non-freesat mode

It supports diseqc switching

Currently it's the only one with iplayer but that should change very soon.

Most of the so called features are determined by the Freesat spec so all should provide these in one way or another.

It would help if you specify what you wan't it to do and individual owners can then say yes or no.

Yes it does and I find it works very well putting all episodes into one folder.

The + in Freesat+ indicates series and accurate recording. Same as Sky+ and Freeview+

Doesn't it also indicate background buffering? Which incidently the Panasonic Blu-ray recorders don't do.

Do ANY of them do 'accurate' recording?, not in my experience

Series link is usually pretty good, but any potential accurate recording relies too heavily on the individual broadcaster.

Depends which channels you record regulary. The mainstream channels are pretty reliable at least 99% I would say. Maybe a screw up on one in a hundred recordings.

Bit of an odd statement, unless you use auto padding you get AR on each episode of a series anyway at least with an hdr you do.

Background buffering was available long before Freeview+. Both the Toppy5800 and the Humax9200 and the Humax8000T had it from new none were freeview+ compatible.

Instead of relying on the broadcaster to indicate what it is they are actually broadcasting what do you suggest instead ?

Perhaps employ an army of OAPs with laptops - they can update the schedule as the programs come on, if you employ several thousand then mistakes by a couple of them wouldn't matter - what do you think ?

The point is that often the broadcaster doesn't bother doing it - particularly on BBC HD, where they seem to forget it even exists.
