EE's Andy - not so Mr Big any more
When the Andy character first appeared he was portrayed as the Eastend's Mr Big - more or less the chief of organised crime. Den had to go and see him when he returned to "straighten things out" as Andy was the heir to the murdered Jack Dalton. And Phil Mitchell was scared of him.
But in recent weeks he's been more like a small hoodlum hanging out at the bookies he owns. Last night Den even went to sort him until stopped by Sharon. Why can't EE be more consistent about these things? Do they think we don't care? |

I think the writers know we don't ultimately care in these details and will just swallow any old story they throw at us. Rudi |

I think what happened was the night that Angie's Den burned down, a car sped into the Square and Andy was thrown out of it onto the doorstep of the Vic, beaten up and bloodied. Seemingly it's not as straight forward as just inheriting a throne, a bigger guy showed up, took Andy out and thats how he's living at Sam's and running the bookies. He's now a small time gangster as opposed to the heir of Dalton.

I can see the ownership of a certain pub changing hands. Rudi |

the andy character is SO unconvincing,he'd have had alfie kneecapped at the very least, never mind lending him 7 grand.emmerdale seems realistic and well-acted in comparison.

When you lend someone a large amount of money, the object is that you are paid back with interest, not that you have someone beaten up. He knows Alfies situation and he should have known that he would have great difficulty paying.

i think the idea is that he lent the money to alfie in full knowledge that there'd be difficulty paying = opportunity for 'revenge' over alfie snatching 'his woman' away from him at the altar etc

Why doesn't Alfie just tell Andy to stuff his loan and if he wants the money back to go and sue him for it in the County Court. If Andy starts to threaten him, all Alfie has to do is phone the police. Isn't this what any normal person would do? It's not as if they all live in a really bad area, where the police wouldn't turn up if called.

*lol* @starship - "Why doesn't Alfie just tell Andy to stuff his loan and if he wants the money back to go and sue him for it in the County Court. If Andy starts to threaten him, all Alfie has to do is phone the police" he wouldn't get threatened, he'd get jumped on round some dark corner one night, a bag over his head and have his legs and fingers broken. and not by that andy bloke, it'd be by some of his untraceable henchmen so he keeps his hands clean, of course!

I have to agree, if Alfie called the police there'd be a horse's head in bed with him and Kat the next morning! lol Ok well maybe not. Alfie already has a hiding coming to him. Andy would have done something eventually, but Alfie asking him for a loan was like the fly going into the spiders web.

Knowing EE the plot will suddenly change to something daft. Andy will take pity on Alfie tell him the money was a gift, and end up as godfather to Alfie and Kats first baby.

It was made clear in the story around the time Angies Den was burnt down that Andys softly softly approach instead of beating people up had made him look weak, so another guy took over and had him beaten up.
Clearly he now plans to take everything the Michells have and take for himself and have his fun with Sam until then. |

Yeh me too! That should be interesting. Or maybe Sharon gets to him first and he tells Andy to stick his job. It would be interesting to have Dennis beat Alfie up though.
