Does anyone know when the first series of dwts begins this year?

I read on TwoP that it's supposed to start on the 22nd of March, according to Tom Bergeron. One of the rumored celebs is Jennifer Grey of Dirty Dancing fame.

Thank you for that Elsa; don't know why I thought it started earlier than March. Jennifer Grey - trained dancer already I believe? Won't add to her popularity if she is!

I heard Jennifer Grey too.
And Nadia Comaneci although I don't know how true either of those are.

Given Jennifer Grey's only real claim to fame is in a film where she danced lots of styles, there will be uproar if she does DWTS!

Having a nose job changed her so much it pretty much ruined her career as became unrecognisable.

In america last week there was an big American TV convention, anyway the head of abc said couples in the next series will be cut from 16 to 12, to improve casting.

Also there is rumours that in 2011 the winter series will be dancing with the stars ON ICE

At least if they went for Skating with the Stars in the Autumn that would mean Len and Bruno wouldn't be flying backwards and forwards over the Atlantic every week - assuming they are still judges on Strictly, of course.

It occurred to me that if there are only 12 couples this season they will have to cut some pros. I wonder who will not be coming back? I know Julianne is scheduled to start filming Footloose and Alec twittered that he might have a small part in a movie and not be available for the spring season so I'd say they will not be in the spring season. I hope they will twitter and let us know.

This is the latest report on Paula Abdul joining DWTS. I can't figure out if they are talking about her being a contestant or a judge.

I had a thought that if both Jennifer Grey and Paula Abdul are on the show that would be a competion between two ringers and people would be tuning in just to see who came out on top. I don't know how the others would feel about it though? I think there is a pro hockey player that has been strongly rumoured to take part for the male celebrities. I can't think of his name. I believe he is in 40s, retired from the sport. Skaters tend to do well at dancing so I hope the rumour is true, unless he is going to that dancing on ice show instead.

I personally would love to see D.B. Sweeny (The Cutting Edge Movie) do DWTS but I doubt he would do it.

I'd be quite surprised if Paula does DWTS because as well as being a dancer when she was younger, she has Emmys for choreography and has done a couple of dance exercise videos. Also she has Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy which is why her hands look strange as her tendons have permanently contracted.

Samantha Harris is leaving the show.

Hallelujah! Samantha was the weakest link on DwtS. Wonder if Paula Abdul will really be a contestant? Or a 4th judge or a Samantha replacement (which would be wrong, imo, as she's a lot more qualified to judge this than American Idol). Oh who knows? Maybe Conan O'Brien will take Samantha's place. He reported that he'd been asked to be a DwtS contestant - and I wish he'd do it because he'd be a riot - but I think he's too "big" for that. Oh and he's 6'5" or something so if by some strange happenstance, he did do it, he'd get our new 5'10" Russian pro Anna Demidova most likely.

I think Samantha and the producers themselves knew that there was very little positive feedback on Samantha. She does not do live TV well and is so awkward in her comments. I wonder who will replace her. I am sure the info will get out before the start of the series.

I thought the last series was Samantha's best tbh and she seemed more relaxed. Wonder who she will be replaced by?

Are we looking at a younger model?

In a special Monday night event, the new cast of “Dancing with the Stars” will be announced by “Dancing with the Stars” host Tom Bergeron in interstitials airing throughout the highly anticipated dramatic two-hour finale of the popular romance reality series, “The Bachelor: On the Wings of Love,” on MONDAY, MARCH 1 (8:00-10:00 p.m., ET), on the ABC Television Network.

Immediately following each cast member’s unveiling during primetime, ABC.com will post the updated list online.

The Spring 2010 season of “Dancing with the Stars” premieres MONDAY, MARCH 22, 2010 (8:00-10:00 p.m., ET). In week two, all of the couples will return to dance once again, MONDAY, MARCH 29 (8:00-10:00 p.m., ET). The team with the lowest combined judges’ scores and public votes for both performances will be eliminated from the competition on the first results show, TUESDAY, MARCH 30 (8:00-9:00 p.m., ET). “Macy’s Stars of Dance,” which features some of the most renowned dancers and choreographers of our time, will also be back on “Dancing with the Stars the Results Show.”

ETA: The website "Celebrity Heights" had a lot of arguments about her height - the most common guess was 5'5" or 5'6" - which would still be too tall for Louis.
