i was out today waitin for a bus in the snow and these girls kept making fun of guys wearing wellies saying they were for women. why were they being so darn stupid. i was glad when they got off the bus as they seemed plane dumb.

so is this the new thing, wellies are only for women and men can't wear them-whats next men can't wear clothes.

they actually make some snazzy wellies for men too, maybe i should get a pair like this for the snowy days?

I was out today & there were these blokes laughing at women wearing wellies, saying that wellies are only for men who work on farms............

Whilst not thinking of them as being gender-specific, I would always have considered wellies more masculine than feminine because of farmers, fishermen etc.

Erm.. try telling some of the farmers around here that. I'd like to see their faces afterwards

That's what I was going to post too. I have always considered wellies to be more mens footwear than women's.

I agree, I think wellies are traditionally male but society has turned them female by making it hard to buy any that don't have flowers or marshmallows on the side. Those are the only types I ever see. And they have pointless straps on the sides. We've turned them into fashion items.

wtf are they on about?

Townies I assume? Never been near a farm probably

They're pretty much unisex. Young girls on buses in talking nonsense shocker..

I have some cool red patterned wellies but I rarely wear them because they pinch and really let the chill in. I wear 30-year-old, scuffed black snow boots.

News to me. I recently got myself a pair of wellies with all the snow we've been having, it didn't occur to me that 'only women' wear them.

Me too. My wellies are bright pink with flowers on.

I wonder what they were wearing on their feet. Knowing some of the younger generation it would have most probably been something very inappropriate for this weather or their feet. You most probably had the last laugh as there's more chance your feet were toastie.

Growing up 'green wellies' were always 'holiday farmers' or 'weekend country folk' as the local farmers round me all had black wellies.

People are silly, with the weather how it is now wellies are perfect.

I bought a pair of Aigle Parcours ISO wellies a few weeks ago. They're very comfortable, excellent for walking, and because they've got a neoprene lining (like a wetsuit) they've been warm in the snow.

Expensive but worth it. Since I live in the country, wellies are pretty much essential anyway.

I have a pair of leather Ecco boots that I wear in the snow over jeans. Unfortunately the soles need replacing as last years weather seems to have made the soles fall off. So at the moment I'm wearing my GAP leather ankle boots with my skinny jeans tucked into them. Sufficient enough to keep my feet and ankles dry.

Those girls on the bus are dumb. Reminds of the time I saw one woman tell her boyfriend to put down a male duffle jacket in Primark because she told him only women wear them.

Only thing is it is not the right kind of weather for wellies. Macho walking boots are where it's at.
