It depends on the wellies. Some have much better soles than others. The Aigle ones I have claim to have soles that are based on walking boot technology and they do give a good grip, as good as my hillwalking boots. However, round here we've recently had a lot of snow that's thawed out, been rained on and then frozen solid, and nothing much short of some sort of crampons copes with that.

I've tried Yaktrax, which are excellent on frozen, compacted snow. However, we've now got fine powdery snow on top of the icy stuff, and the springs on the Yaktrax get clogged up before they can get down to the ice, and in these conditions I don't think the Yaktrax are much of a help, though they're great in other situations.

I've now ordered some things called Kahtoola MICROspikes which get good reviews. Unfortunately they're out of stock in most places, but I'm told stock should be arriving fairly soon.

(I feel I'm somewhat straying from Fashion and Beauty, though!)

Can you still get Kermit wellies? I remember those from when I was a kid. They were ace.

Wellies are not gender specific but after looking at the first picture , i'd prefer my bloke to wear black wellies and not patterned ones.
Camouflage wellies just look wrong on a man. It's silly but I can't help feeling this way!

camouflage is hardly a feminin design though?!

If I saw a woman walking down the road in camouflage wellies I'd think... "why's she wearing mens wellies" !

Unless they were pink camouflage.... (which kind of defeats the point of it being camouflage in the first place!)

I guess it is a masculine design but for some reason the picture made me laugh. If I had a partner then he could wear whatever he wanted to (i've never told a boyf what to wear) but these just look a bit...camp?

Agreed.

And, to be honest, I doubt there are any women that actually think wellies shouldn't be worn my men.

I'd have thought the men in Ugg boots brigade would be straight on here telling us how warm their feet are out in the snow, wearing their Ugg boots.

I own some Emu boots as well (cheaper uggs) and i'm male- as far as i'm concerned ugg/sheepskin boots were originally made by a men for men fact- so telling me that i cant wear some boots which are made for men and further still- are sold in most mens clothes shops in mens sizes is quite frankly stupid.

Now women in jeans dear oh dear how can we define them- perhaps the same stereotypical way

and when i wear mine in the cold weather yes-my feet are warm.

Well i can understand UGG boots if you are a surfer and after getting out of the water need to warm your feet quick, That's the purpose of them, but on the other hand , a men in a middle of a UK City walking to the pub in fluffy things is frankly ridiculous. Sorry Not that it looks much better in women..

even though i've waterproofed them, there would be no point in ruining them in the snow, hence why i have been wearing these this week

Hope okay to bring this back up. I enjoy getting out into local country parks, which are getting muddy and puddles everywhere.

But just love this colour, and as a guy loved it today when a pretty lady told me she loved the colour.

Wellington boots only for women? What would male farmers wear then? Which is the reason they were invented in the first place.

I've got a green pair myself.
