Problems Recording Channel 5
Charenton
07-01-2010
I have been having many missed recordings on Ch5 recently. Last night I set my Thompson 6300-16 to record NCIS at 9.00pm and selected the series link to cover the 10.00pm programme too. I checked in the guide that both programmes were marked to be recorded. After watching the Linda La Plante programme on ITV at 9.00pm, on my digital TV using the TV tuner not the PVR, I went to the Library and started to watch the 9.00pm NCIS, fast forwarding through the ads, no problem here. Then about 10.45pm I went to planned recordings and selected to watch from the start the 10.00pm NCIS. Nothing whatsover!! Just a black screen. I eventually discovered that instead of recording Ch 5 it was trying to record Ch801 which also lists Ch 5 programmes but doesn't say Ch5 under the Today heading. Obviously I didn't set it to record Ch801.

I have noticed a few times that in Planned recordings some of the Ch5 programmes to be recorded don't actually say Ch5. This is clearly why I have been having missed recordings.

What's going on?

Seems like I'm the only one who suffered from this problem. However, I think I have solved it by doing another "scan for channels" and channel 801 has now disappeared from the guide.

Presumably the box won't try to record 801 in the future..

Glad you got your problem solved. Out of interest what exactly was Ch. 801 and did it have any other name on EPG?

Thanks for your reply Digifriendly.

Channel 801 was a mirror of Channel 5's programme listings but there was no channel name. If you selected the current programme from the EPG to watch on 801 all you got was a black screen. Somehow or other, after chosing a programme to record out of the normal channel 5 listings it chose to record channel 801 instead, hence no recording.

This is a comment I found in Freeview UK Television Information. I assume when I re-tuned on 30th Sept 2009 I got 801 which was then removed on 4th Nov 2009. Retuning yesterday removed it from my box.

Channel 5 (old copy)

Freeview channel 801?

Multiplex A 4-Nov-09: Channel removed. Our television previously assigned this channel to 801 with a blank title but other equipment may have handled it differently.

From the information on this link:-

I would think we all need to retune our boxes again.
