Some of the songs you play when feeling melancholic
gertrude

You know sometimes, when you've got that melancholic, but not necessarily sad feeling, when you need to hear some of those songs to help the feeling - if you know what I mean

What are some of those songs?

Some of mine are:

"Jealous Guy" - Roxy Music
"Ever Fallen in Love with Someone" - Will Young
"Lilac Wine" - Jeff Buckley
"Tell Me the Worst" - Will Young
"As Tears Go By" - Rolling Stones
"I'll Find my Way Home" - Jon & Vengalis

Oltremare - Ludovico Einaudi
Fuori Dal Mondo - Ludovico Einaudi

His ^ music makes me feel really calm.

I don't really know what melancholic means, but if I'm sad, I listen to nearly any Oasis song, It Ends Tonight by The All-American Rejects, Happy Ending by Mika, I'm Still Breathing by Katy Perry, that kind of thing, to give me a sort of sense of mind, if that makes sense?

But to stop myself from feeling sad, I listen to Bittersweet Symphony by The Verve, Move Along, Gives You Hell & Can't Take It by The All-American Rejects, lots of Katy Perry (mainly The Box, Fingerprints and Self Inflicted).

A-ha are good at producing some great melancholic music
Maybe explains why I consider them as the soundtrack to my life.

Faves of their's for a seriously melancholic mood are :
I wish I cared.
Barely hanging on.
Scoundrel Days.
Nothing is keeping you here.
Lifelines.
Cosy Prisons...........

I could go on.

Most things by The Veils, Tom Waits, Slowdive... stuff like that. Oh, and 'Broken Heart' by Spiritualized. About as melancholic as you can get.

Ironically, 'Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness- Smashing Pumpkins' makes me feel better if I'm a bit down.

Or else a bit of Oasis or Arctic Monkeys usually does the trick!

A fantastic list of songs if I do say so myself but those three in particular are definitely songs that I play when feeling on the melancholic side. I would undoubtedly get a few jibes for saying this in front of certain people but I think all three are examples of beautiful music.
Another one in the same category for me is another of Mr. Weller's finest - "English Rose."

Further songs that suit a melancholic mood for me include:

Simon & Garfunkel - The Only Living Boy in New York
Billy Idol - Eyes Without A Face, particularly the first two verses.
Simon & Garfunkel - Leaves That Are Green
Finley Quaye - Even After All
The Beatles - In My Life
George Michael - Mother's Pride & Heal The Pain
Cutting Crew - I've Been In Love Before
Beach Boys - Don't Worry Baby
