SCART to S-video Connection
Please help
I've got an S-video out connection on my PC but my TV only has scart and composite input. I've bought a scart convertor that has s-video and composite sockets and an input/output switch. The problem is when i use the convertor to plug the pc into the tv all i get is a black and white picture of the computer screen on the tv. Anyone know why it's not colour and how do I fix it? |

That means your TV doesn't support S-video. On TVs with only one SCART socket, it'll most likely only support composite video and RGB. On TVs with 2 or more SCARTs, usually at least one of them (the highest numbered one) will support S-video. You may need to force the TV into S-video mode as there is no autodetection.
What you're doing is correct, you just need to find the right SCART socket, buy a new TV or see if your graphics card supports 'composite over S-video'. |

seems that the problem is with your TV, some TV have to be on a certain AV channel to receieve Svideo check the instructions to see if your TV is like this on mine its on AV3 but obviously this varies.
If you cannot get it working at all you may still be able to use your PC on the TV as most graphics cards can output composite too which you can just plug into a SCART block, this is usually done with a adapter supplied with the graphics card. The only problem is you will lose picture quality compared with Svideo but would at least get it working |

Thanks for the advice.
I've tried a few different things now... I have another PC (with same ATI graphics card) that is already connected to a TV that has S-video, scart and composite inputs. S video from the pc to S video on the TV works great - i.e. colour picture, but when I try S video to composite or S video to scart using the converters I have all I get is a black and white picture. (I have tried two differnet s-video to scart converters and one s-video to composite converter) I also tried it with my laptop which has S video out with exactly the same results - black & white picture. Could it be the S-video cable? It seems unlikely to me as the cable works fine S-video to S-video. Any thoughts greatly received. |

That simply means the TV's SCART input does not accept S-video signals. Check the TV manual.

I seem to remember seeing a simple diagram to convert S-video to composite on a website but can't find it at the moment.
You can also buy cables that do a conversion. Phil Edit: http://www.epanorama.net/circuits/svideo2cvideo.html |

I have a Panasonic TV and I get a similar problem. Try using the AV button on the TV (if you have one). This switches between TV AV1 AV2 AV25 AV3
AV2 / AV25 switches between black & white, and colour |

AV2 / AV25 switches between black & white, and colour AV2 supports composite, AV2S supports SVideo. Rgds, Scorp |
