My parents have a Sony RDR-HXD560. It has worked fince but when I was visiting them at Christmas I noticed they hadn't retuned in November so did it for them as FIVE was missing.

The re-tune got as far as about 73% and then the machine resets. The screen goes blank and the front panel display goes blank. A few seconds later WELCOME appears and it has restarted. Retuning never completes.

My parents used to have a habit of turning everything off at the mains which means it has (I think ) missed a software update. It's running 1.08 which is the version that introduced series links.

They are in the South West so this is a post DSO area.

I foudn a post that refereed to later firmware than this - can anyone confirm if there is more recent firmware?

I have asked Sony for an ISO image so I can manually update it. However they said that isn't possible.

Mind you Sony UK said that about my RDR-GX7 when it woudlnt write to more recent DVD-Rs But I got an ISO from someone in the US and that upated it fine and fixed the problem.

Has anyone else experienced this retunign problem?

Thanks for this - I followed that link, but it doesn't say what Sony models are due an update next week. Do you know if this PVR is included by any chance?

Interesting the Sony seem not to have supplied details to DTG of the updates - as the page still says TBC and the update is supposed to be running right now!

I just called Sony as they keep just closing my question on their support forum without a response.

They tell me that there has never been an update for an RDR HXD 560. That I know is wrong as it started with 1.01.03CE and now has 1.01.08CE and that added series link to it. Others have reported later versions.

When I asked Sony to confirm the latest version all they could say is whatever I have is the latest!

Another example of Sony Uk showing absolutely no interest in providing updates for it's equipment.

I asked what updates are being broadcast today as the DTG site doesn't list them and they said probably TVs btu also coudln't confirm.

Does anyone have any names of people I could write to to complain at Sony UK?

it could be they are getting mixed up with firmware and the software needed for the tuner to work

is there anything in the manual to factory reset the machine and then take it from there ??

the sony update will happen and you will just have to wait for it to come round again. It looks like the update was a good while ago and maybe thats the problem ??

Is there an option for switching OFF auto update , as theres something in the back of my head that it interfered with something and some people switched this OFF and it cured the fault or was it switch ON ??

I will look at your manual online

or you could try this European email address:SUK.generalCIC@eu.sony.com

Looks good - i think these 'wake' themselves up out of standby for the software update don't they?

Or do they need to be powered on (ie not in standby) and on BBC1?
